One Mammoth Product, or Ebook + Upsell. Which is Best?

Hi guys

I am in a bit of a dilemma at the moment and i could do with some advice.

I have an ebook with an accompanying video course that I have made myself in the MMO niche. I am undecided as to whether I should sell the product as a whole, or sell the ebook and use the video course as an upsell.

I realise that I will be able to split test which is most effective later on, but I want to know which is the best way to go to begin with.

What are your opinions?

Thanks

Neil

You're perfectly correcting about figuring out which may be best by doing a split test later, but if you're seeking opinions on which you should do, I think you should put yourself in the buyer's shoes.

As a buyer, what if you bought the eBook and then suddenly got hit with the option of: "Hey, if you want to get even more out of this information [despite whatever promises you made initially on what the information would deliver], you can get this great video course for "x" off the regular price, order now!"

The goal is to get that initial sale -- maybe offering the eBook as the primary product and then after all the fireworks of what this thing is so great to get, hit them with the video courses as a limited time bonus for the initial purchase.

That's a strong head on pitch -- and then maybe within the eBook itself off some opportunities where the buyer could get some other kind of upsells.

The other question you have to ask is: as written, the eBook make numerous mentions of the video course? So much so that it would appear as the video course should have been offered initially and without separate purchase?

Another idea might be just offering the eBook, building a list from your buyers, and then 48-72 hours after the sale, inform then of this new, exciting video course that compliments the eBook. And, of course, since they've purchased the eBook already, they're entitled to a copy of the video course for x percent off the normal price. ORDER NOW! lol

    I am in a similar dilema ...

I have pretty much the exact same as the OP and cannot decide the best route on bringing my product to market. I have also looked at my options and still can't settle on one of them for now.

    I have considered:

    1. bring ebook to market, then have upsell (OTO) on the download page for the videos
    2. bring full course to market including ebook
    3. bring ebook to market and wait a period, then offer the full video course to compliment
    4. bring both to market, be totally transparent and have two buy now buttons, one for ebook and other for full package.

I personally favor #4, and am considering this, so this if as a WSO will have the two buttons giving the prospects a choice.

Or am I giving them too many options by doing it this way, therefore reducing sales?

    Love to hear others thoughts...

You've got the right idea, Chris

I'd suggest going with option #4 too. As effective as OTOs can be, they are becoming less popular because of the "arm-twisting impulse buy psychology" behind it. It's silly to expect someone to buy a $60 upsell for a more comprehensive version of the $7 dollar front end product that they just bought and haven't had the chance to read yet.

List both products on your sales page, clearly outlining the benefits or lack thereof of the two different versions, and state that getting the full package would be more cost effective (much like how software sales pages sell single & multi site licenses)... most people will still go for the cheaper package unless you're an established authority in your niche...

In the front end product, plug & promote your full package (do not overdo this). At the end of it, tell them to join your mailing list for a special discount or no brainer bonus (personal support, coaching, etc.) on the full package, to catch their opt ins. Tell them this offer is only available to your mailing list. Then sell them on the full package through an auto responder sequence. Keep that list going with related offers and valuable content, don't lose the momentum. I've made that mistake before and it cost me dearly...

Just remember, unless you're doing a full on PLF style launch for a full package or are already well known in your niche, it's better to start with a smaller product because your target market isn't familiar with you and won't take the risk with a big purchase...

As a wise man once told me, "Get it done, then get it right!"

However, that being said, if you have the time and resources to split test, go for it!

      Hope this helps!

My advise would be to sell the ebook and offer the videos as a surprise bonus..You will definitely see a super low refund rate!
