You just gotta love Clickbank sometimes...

A few days ago I logged in to my Clickbank account that I haven't used in ages. What do I see right at the top of the page? Yes, a big warning box alerting me to the fact Clickbank have updated their Promotional Guidelines and all vendors must adhere to these new rules.

Ok, so that sounds fair enough, right? But what do I then see literally just under that warning box? Yes, a nice big advertisement for a sales page claiming some nice big earning figures.

So naturally I head on over and take a look at the sales page that is being advertised right inside the Clickbank members area. What do I find?

5. Promotional Techniques

We Will NOT Allow:

Statements that infer that the product is significantly easier to use than it really is (for example, “one push button to make money” or “three simple words will provide you income”). ClickBank requires that pitches make reasonable attempts to reflect the actual effort required to achieve typical results. It is generally unreasonable to assume that someone with little or no experience in Internet marketing can achieve a 6-figure income with an hour or less of effort per day.

Oh really? Could have fooled me.

How about this one?

2. False Scarcity

We Will NOT Allow:

False scarcity messaging when there is no actual scarcity of the product (for example, “Only 300 copies” when there are unlimited copies, tickers running down the amount of time there is to purchase, and listing that this is a one-time opportunity TODAY only).

Now some people make argue this one with me but I think I am right in saying the image below is an example of fake scarcity. If you are using the threat of a price increase to try and encourage people to buy then to me that is scarcity. If that price does not increase in the next few days (which it hasn't in the offer I am referring to) then that is FALSE scarcity.

Way to go Clickbank! Setting a FINE example as always. If you want people to adhere to your rules then stop advertising products that are clearly in violation of the new rules you are trying to implement.

I am the same way. I've seen it so much that it just isn't "eye catching" for me anymore.

When you've seen the same basic claim 5,000 times it kind of loses it's luster

hilarious. Not really, though. Why bother to post new rules if you don't abide by them? Is it just fluff to show the FTC that they really are trying? Don't think that tactic will work. I've seen them fine both the ad network and the affiliates for misrepresenting benefits and fake testimonials even though the ad network had similar TOS.

Clickbank is in it for the money... it's clear that they put up these "rules" just to cover their asses in case the FTC comes knocking. They've been making "policy updates" for years!

All I could do was laugh when everyone was going batsh*t crazy over the coming CB changes a few weeks back.

While I despise the "See how I made $32,197.56 in 2 1/2 hours with 2 wrenches and a keyboard" hype stuff, I did notice that CB is giving these vendors until the 31st of this month to get their products in compliance, which at that point (and I would assume this would be the case per their terms) they would be shutting down vendors who are not in compliance.

So, either this person is waiting to change their stuff until the last minute or they are trying to ride it out for what its worth until the 31st. Either way, I hope to see CB stick to their guns on this and end the hooplah.

Yes, from what I understand those products that were approved BEFORE the 1st of August have until the 31st of August to become compliant - and I understand that. What I don't get is why they (Clickbank) would be silly enough to advertise offers like this inside the members area when they are in the process of trying to get everyone to clean up their acts.

You can't release new guidelines, whether they are enforced now or in a few weeks, and then turn around and advertise products that don't properly follow those guidelines... in front of the very people you are trying to enforce those new guidelines upon. Well you can do it... but it's stupid and hypocritical.

I think those advertisements are paid ads. Regardless, they could easily disapprove them.

It's also possible that the advertiser purchased before the new rules came to be, and clickbank is obliged to give him his advertising run.

In any event, I think I found your OP in the dictionary under "irony". lol

I miss the old days when clickbank dope. Im sure they're still good in some ways, but I hardly even bother let alone buy. There is just too much bs out there. I feel wso's have them beat.

That is really funny! Yeah, I think Clickbank is just trying to cover themselves because of the previous FTC crackdown. They want to be able to wash their hands of all the sleazy scammers if the FTC ever comes knocking.

it says everyone has until then to comply or face
penalties.

all new vendors are required to do it prior to approval, but existing products have until the 31st to meet the requirements.

I personally like the new rules, I just had a product on affiliate marketing accepted into clickbank according to their new rules and my conversions are pretty high.

  Yes and the FTC requires they provide proof on request if they're making income claims in the form of an "Earnings Claims" document so ask these ClickBank vendors for it and see if they comply.

  I think you nailed it. I've never been a big fan of CB even though I've made money with them. They've always been slow to make changes or update their practices.
  
  I fully believe the new "rules" were added as a nod to the FTC and it may work for a while. However, if they catch the attention of regulators, it will be a different story. I think CB is really dumb not to be regulating in a way that reflects their own new guidelines - and in time they may regret it.

  I said this before and I will say it again. CB is a endangered species. They are trying to milk out as much money and tow the fine line until the hammer of the Fed comes down on them. They have had numerous staff leaving en masse over the last few weeks. It's just a matter of time.
  At the same time promoting this junk has destroyed many many marketers and they can now not send a email even to themselves. I have heard from a couple of marketers that the mere mention of their name in a email blocks the email. The whole frauduct launch model is collapsing around them. You will probably see more than one on his way to sharing a cell with Bubba real soon.
