Some Awesome Email Scams

It's hard to sound sarcastic in a thread title, but I can assure you that I don't think email scams are awesome.

Over the past few days I have recieved a number of extremely suspicous emails, which shocked me becuase I was nearly fooled by them.

I'd like to think of myself as being a pretty savvy email opener, but these scams are a lot more believable than "Your the relative of a Nigerian princess".

So, for your personal amusement/knowledge here are a couple of the emails I have recieved:

From: info 4 <info.4@ups.com>
To:
contact@*.com
Subject:
UPS notification

Dear customer.

The parcel was sent your home address.

And it will arrive within 3 business day.

More information and the tracking number are attached in document below.

Thank you.

The email above had a zip file attached. I didn't open it as I can only assume it is filled with nasty's.

At a glance, I was tempted to open the attachment though... then I remembered I live in the UK and have never recieved anything from UPS. :p

Okay this one was kinda crap, but if I lived in New York I might have downloaded the virus filled attachment.

I'm trying to laugh at these rather then explode with rage at the cheeky buggers who send this crap

What annoys me is when they use the name "Support" or "Support Staff" .. And I actually fell for it the first couple of times ..

Scammers have been doing that for a long time. Several years we had hundreds those coming to a company I worked for and we were blocking via our perimeter spam filter.

    Scammers will try anything.

I got the traffic ticket email yesterday. First time I've seen that. It came from "New York" though. Too bad I live in the south.

Ooh, I've been getting these for a long time. Some supposedly from DHL as well.

Really glad I have a well configured Spam catching script, haha.

some possible reasons may be that:

*you signed up somewhere or bought a product, and that the email list got sold
      * email-ads shown on Social Networking sites
      * received forwarded chain emails (I hate these stuff) - these are like balls which keep on rolling and gathering as much moss (your email) as it can.

Gmail screens all those UPS ones for you, and sends you an email saying they stopped what looked like a suspicious message and if you would like to read it. They don't even let it get to your spam folder.

Anyway, just use your head. Never believe any email you get saying they want you to reset your password. there was a very sophisticated one with Aweber recently which I almost fell for, so always be on your guard.

Hahaha, I'm also getting the UPS notification email everyday, but it enters my spam folder. Wonder how the email sender could get my email address as I never gave my email to anyone.

This is just a new spin on old scams that have been circulating the internet for a long time.

If it feels wrong, chances are it is wrong.
