Flipping Websites-Avoid Paypal Scam

I've heard that to avoid paypal scam, the seller can simply ship a CD to the buyer. But I don't think it's easy to implement. How can seller get the right address of the buyer? Yes, the sell can ask them to provide. But what if they don't give the true name and address?

I mean the buyer may give a fake name and address. Then the buyer dispute on paypal for refund. Although the seller can give shipping tracking information to paypal, but the buyer can say" oh, that's not shipped to me."....

And for the buyer, is it always safe to buy website paying by paypal? The buyer can always ask for refund and in most cases they can get refund. But I'm thinking of one situation that the seller may withdraw all the money in his paypal quickly and never come back to that account again. Is it possible for the buyer to get refund in this case?

So what is your safe way to flip website? And how do you research buyer or seller to avoid scam? Yes, I know escrow, but I think escrow is only necessary for big deal($500+ deal I think).

So people are buying sites, then saying they are not getting them, is this correct?

I am kind of confused upon here.

You are talking about flipping website on PayPal and then shipping and tracking information !!!

    What is the relation ?

As of the shipping, PayPal in concerned only about shipping to the address provided by PayPal only (even if the buyer contacted you to ship to a different address, you MUST not do that as you will be responsible for taking that risk).

Setup your sale transfer through an Escrow company. Once your end is verified as delivered through the escrow account, the funds will be transferred to your paypal account. The escrow company covers your rearend against a scammer like that.

I do agreed with this. Selling website on flippa, using escrow is a mandatory, or at least for a site that sell above $100

Be smart - use the Escrow Feature.

Even sending a CD to a buyer (a physical product under Paypal's definition-no longer a digital product) still faces a common scam used with buyers "I never received it"

This is a difficult situation even if the CD is sent certified mail, to the correct address you were given, and buyer signs for it...You find even Amazon stands behind the buyer in this scenario-regardless...

Most all known escrow companies have a working relationship with paypal. A decent escrow company with a good rep tend to be pretty quick on plucking out the bananas from any suspious monkey business.

Escrow.com is the only way to ensure you don't get ripped off when buying/selling a domain name. Its the only website I use for this kind of thing, and I've bought and sold a lot of domain names

I just sold a site on today. I was thinking of using escrow. I'll be using it for sure on the next round.

You have settings in Paypal that you can set to only allow sales from people with verified addresses if you want to do that. If you don't do that and they give you an address, keep the email or any communications with them for proof with Paypal if you do send it. Also send it via certified mail requesting the receipt back.

You can also check buyer's feedback, but if they are new and don't have any, you're taking a chance.

If you really want to be safe, use escrow.

The best option is to use a neutral third party of some kind (like escrow). If that isn't feasible, you can release funds a different steps such as 25% before transferring anything, 25% after domain pushed, etc., etc.

Yea I will never and I mean never deal with paypal if something is more than $200.00. I always seem to get screwed by them and they don't give a damn about their customers.

I was under the assumption that since the website was an intangible product that the seller of the site would win the chargeback as its not covered? I guess not?

Sending it on a CD via certified mail makes it a tangible product. It isn't always black and white on the intangibles, even though that's the stated policy. I won a Paypal dispute/claim after I proved that I transferred the files and domain to the person and I had a website sale contract that I showed them.

This is false. Simply, capture a screen shot of the email confirmation sent to you from your registrar after you transfer the domain. In a dispute, show this picture to PayPal and say the buyer has received the item(s) as acknowledged by notice from the registrar (GoDaddy or whatever). PayPal will trust a confirmation email from GoDaddy or whatever before believing a buyer with no evidence.
