The plug-in makers will probably catch up, they have been going FF version numbers rather quickly lately.

My light collection of 8 or so plugins had just a divx video adapter dumped, the 3 SEO plugins I use still function with the new FF 6.

Version 7 already in alpha testing is said to address the long standing memory leak issues.

Thanks for the heads up Martin....Was just about to go to the new upgrade, won't bother now, I seem to be doing just fine with what I have now.......so I guess its a case of "if it ain't broke........"

As you said a lot of the plugins and toolbars stopped working in the latest 2 upgrades of FireFox. So I set out to try other plugins and toolbars which are still working and I found some gems which I would like to share with you all...

1) Foxy SEO Tool
2) WebToolHub Toolbar

These two give a wealth of SEO information. Besides these, there are other good ones too. I suggest you take a look at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ and choose whatever functionality you want.

I use multi internet browser for different use. (it use for different email login too :-D ). I always use Firefox for main (default browser). But the best and fastest browser is Google Chrome.

Surprisingly, this update didn't break my fingerprint scanner plugin.

However, every other previous major update did, and that's precisely one of the reasons why I abandoned FireFox recently.

Well, that and the fact it lost my toolbar bookmarks every 3rd or 4th reboot. And the fact that the WarriorForum fonts and spacing looked all messed up.

I can't stand Chrome, and neither that nor Opera supports my fingerprint scanner anyway.

So these days I am back to using Internet Explorer.

If you have the setup of any of the older versions of FF, you can uninstall FF5 from your control panel and then install a previous version that you have the setup for.

Depending on how far back one wishes to go, FireFox 3.6 is still being maintained and updated, and is available for download here.

Firefox has become too slow for the masses.

I used to use FF all the time a few years ago — but as of today, I only use Chrome!

Chrome is not only fast — but lightweight, easy and stable

Firefox is still a nice browser and use it in sites that Opera which is my default can't display them properly.

Opera now has also SEO features with their build in DragonFly option

I'm beginning to HATE FF! The last couple of releases have been nothing but crash dummies for my computer, and my system is brand new.

Tons of plug in container issues that cause FF to stop working, just a big pain!

FF has gone to a faster update schedule. And I agree about the crashing problem. I've reverted back to 3.6 and don't plan to update again.

FF has some real handy plugins which make it worthwhile for specific purposes, but for every day use I'm looking for something else.

And that's too bad. It is was nice to have a good alternative to Microsoft / Google.

Hi Martin,

Here -

Firefox 3.6
Old version of roboform
Windows XP

No iphone, just mobile phone for texting (free skype/landline for calls)
No ipod, just cheap MP3 player
Don't watch TV, just useful and positive DVDs
No facebook/twitter etc

Old reliable car, without computerisation or sealed units (had one, got rid)

(Not an exhaustive list)

Call me old-fashioned, or call me smart, either way I don't care what you call me, I'm stress-free as much as possible and have loads of time for the fun, natural, useful, profitable things in life.

I left the technology race behind (to a degree) along with the rat race, because it's momentum is caused by marketers keen to sell more products to rabid consumers, not due to useful innovation.

Perhaps there's a lesson here for those who might want it.

Firefox has been sucking more and more memory lately. It gets really bad when you open and close a lot of tabs. I'm constantly restarting it so it doesn't eat up 800+mb of RAM.

Going to try out Chrome more now.

Try Memory Restart It's an open-source Firefox add-on that allows you to quickly restart Firefox if memory usage is too high. Firefox users can see the memory usage in the add-on bar or the toolbar tool-tip. If memory usage reaches a certain threshold, the add-on bar display and the toolbar icon will turn red.

Version 1.5 handles FF6 (it says).

Just one question about the plugin. Do all these sirens and flashing lights mean CPU usage is higher than red?

You shouldn't need an addon to tell you when memory usage it too high.... that's spells out just how bad FF really is....

Had the same problem, with Firefox 5. Upgraded to 6, and installed the MEMORY FOX, (not Memory Restart)plugin. Working better now.

Since I have been using Firefox for quite some time now, I could say that it is still the fastest and probably because of the tons of plug-ins that are incorporated with it makes it a problem. I mean, there is plug-ins that caused some problems with the computer and in my case; there are plug-ins that won't work when I installed it to my computer. What the heck is that plug-ins for if it doesn't work?

I switch to Google Chrome and have never looked back. Google Chrome is significantly faster than Firefox in my opinion. The only thing I changed to Google Chrome's default settings is adding the bookmark toolbar since I really like that when Firefox first came out.

Switch to Google chrome and you'll never have to worry again!

I use the older Fire Fox 3.6 version, however I am also getting tired of it crashing , in fact quiet a bit. Time to switch to Chrome which seems to work very smoothly, and hasn't crashed since testing for over a week now. Hope there aren't any surprises ahead.

MMMM I actually thought it was my PC.

The last 2 months FF has been acting up. Freezing up or crushing on a regular basis. I Love FF so I never thought I would consider moving along to Chrome...

But it may be that time...

If the loss of plugins is your reason for not liking the new Firefox, then Chrome is certainly not the answer. Chrome may be faster, but it most definitely lacks in functionality.

which ever the reason you might have for this decision i have no quarrel bit i strongly feel that this is not the right decision.
I have used it for the entire of my SEO life and i can confess that it will never fail you.
i have also tried other browsers that are very frustrating, in fact i lost much tine on my initial times on such browsers.
There are some others that are rare but very good like the apple but firefox remain to rock

If your firefox is crashing a lot it means you have a lot of outdated plugins such as flash. You might need to make a clean install or update certain things to keep it running. I remember I had that problem before, and I fixed it when I updated some stuff.

Or just use Chrome. It's faster.
