Can you do a partial refund in Paypal?

For some odd reason 4 customers overnight paid about 200% more than the going price on my ___.

I'm a little nervous about doing anything to freak out Paypal- but I also don't want these customers who paid more than necessary to get the shaft - compared to everyone else.

Anyhow - suggestions how I can make it up to these customers without red-flagging Paypal?

    Hi Heidi, yes you can do a partial refund.

    Look in your transaction summary and locate the specific transaction in question.

    You'll see a box that reads "refund".

    Click it and then you'll see that you're given an option to offer a full refund or a partial refund.

    Obviously go for the partial refund, enter the amount, and put something in the comment box should you so choose.

    Then send it away!

    P.S.

    It's better to issue the partial refund now than wait for a customer to contact PayPal or file a dispute. The latter will guarantee your account being put on PayPal's radar while the former (partial refunding) will not upset PayPal's automated "search for apparent evil" detection system.

    PayPal does give you the ability to refund or partial refund for up to 60 days after the money is first received in your account.

    We do partial refunds all the time. Customers return goods, so we refund the product portion but not the shipping.

    I don't think Paypal cares, as long as the customers are not complaining.

    So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

    Why don't you just send them the overage directly to their paypal acct. Then it is a payment to them rather than a refund.

      I saw somewhere that one of the automated red-flags that can get your account frozen is sending money back and forth.

      You know - your mom sends you money - you send it back - saying, 'I'm OK mom - give it to your other daughter...; she sends it back saying - Oh no -it's for your lap band surgery - I want you to have it.... etc.

    You can absolutely do a partial refund through Paypal.

    In regards to your account getting red-flagged, there isn't really anything you can do about that, and Paypal are notorious for flagging innocent people's accounts.

    UPDATE: I elected to do a 'partial refund' so all the details about the transaction would be present for the customer - in case they wondered who Heidi White was.

    Anyhow - with only 4 transactions and less than $20 total getting returned - Paypal hasn't frozen me out yet. lol

    And the best part is - that by doing it this way - the WSO Pro details were 'automatically updated' to reflect the correct price.

    Now if that customer does decide to come back for a refund - they can only refund the new (lower by $3+ amount) - not the original amount - which would still be there if I had sent the money separately.

      Yes, that's definitely the best way. If you'd just sent the overage directly to the customer, they could still have put in a later claim to PayPal and you'd have no evidence to tie in your refund to their transaction.

      Plus, with an official refund, you get your PayPal fee proportionately refunded.

    Yes, PayPal site is very friendly, just open up the transaction summary area from your menu, and its clear regarding the refund, and amount, may have been mentioned already... Anyway, I have to agree, best to address this 1st, rather than waiting for someone to raise the flag...!
