Once again thinking im needing a mentor....

Hi again, i joined here last week asking for a mentor and decided to try asking all questions here. Thing is, im not all that comfortable breaking it down in a public forum. Ive already gone back to the beginnings with a site ive had for a while - i wrote a lengthy intro saying where i am so far etc, and explained my niche ideas. Happy to discuss my ideas on an open forum, yesterday i asked a keyword research question and showed my searches etc so ive not a problem asking for help, and ive had loads of good advice so far. My difficulty is really relying on whoever might be online to advise, or the pace of the forum, actually getting replies as questions can drop quickly. I need someone to be very specific - i think i have an understanding of all of the aspects, but not the nitty gritty on most. For example, product creation - ebooks, what software to actually produce (i know now thanks to advice here i may add!), or autoresponders - the actual processes, keyword research, the whys and hows, someone pointing out what im doing wrong - basically all the benefits of a mentor.

Can anyone genuinely point me to a good mentor, someone who rather than asking here, i could email directly and get an answer with what and why - once this is done im sure i can do this with other sites or ideas. But i think of all the fields of work, finding a genuine mentor in this would be a challenge - with more snake oil than most industries.

Im sure some will advise to read here rather than a mentor, and yes the information is second to none, but rather than asking on an open forum and seeing what comes back, i honestly believe a mentor may well be the way for me.

Any thoughts or advice??

Alan

There are alot of good mentors on this forum, so it is hard to pin point any particular individual..You can do some simple observation on your own and see who makes good posts, and try approaching them..But do not harass them, just a simple approach will do.

Ok - here's some MORE decent advice:

I've seen "get a mentor" as advice on many newbie sites. What could be better than having an experienced marketer ready to answer every question and explaining everything to you. It's easy advice to give and it sounds like a great idea.

But - what you are asking is for someone else to stop working on his own business and give you his time. You have not mentioned paying for mentoring or coaching so I'm assuming you want a free mentor. That is why you were advised to follow certain people on this forum and were referred to at least one site that helps new marketers get started.

You were also advised to join the War Room. You didn't. Why not?

A mentor will point you in the right direction - he won't lead you there step by step. You will make mistakes and you will need to spend some time looking (google is your friend) and learning things you don't know.

Think about what you are asking - and take the advice you've been given in other threads as well. You can get a lot of help here.

only been in the forum one week and did not want to start paying out subscription fees to something ive met for the first time, yet!

yes already spend countless hours daily doing this, but limited success hence why asking here. Also this method is what brought me to warrior in the first place

You are not ready for a mentor IMO.

Sounds like you are still looking for some technical how to information and perhaps lacking in some confidence to do what you need to do.

Can anyone genuinely point me to a good mentor, someone who rather than asking here, i could email directly and get an answer with what and why - once this is done im sure i can do this with other sites or ideas. You are essentially starting your own online business. Have you ever started a business before? Any business, you need to determine a need in the market and then supply that need to the buyers.

What kind of what and why are you looking for?

Did you know you can actually type questions into google and get direct answers to things?

Finding a personal mentor is more than just tossing a post on a forum.

A good mentor will be specialized in specific things that can help your particular business.

A good mentor will also cost some money.

I'm not really sure what level you are at, but my impression is you are not ready.

hey alan in an ideal world there will be loads if mentor queuing up waiting for you to ask them to help you out from start to finish.

unfortunately, mentors as mentioned earlier are actual business owners and very busy people who will only give up their time if they are getting paid for it.

i started online just a month ago and i joined a coaching program that used videos to go through the process of building a list as an asset. obviously this cost me money to join but the coaching was good.

Also as mentioned earlier....the war room is full of great info.

Finally, Chris Farrell name was also mentioned, he is pretty well respected as a successful marketer, and i think he has a coaching program ,launching sometime next month were he teaches people how to make money online....this is going to cost you money but it could be a way of getting that personal mentor you crave!

What kind of what and why are you looking for?for the reasons above really, rather than having 'whoever answers' in an open forum. Not knocking the help in any way i must add, just a mentor would offer more consistiency (hopefully!)

Did you know you can actually type questions into google and get direct answers to things? yes thsi is how i get the majority of any answers

Just so you know, Alan ...

              (i) The "War Room" is not a "subscription". It costs $37 (single payment) for 20 years' membership, and provides access to huge amounts of valuable material;

(ii) When you reply to people in forum posts here by "quoting" the whole of the post to which you're replying and interspersing your own comments in another colour, you cause two problems for people: first, you make it extremely difficult for anyone wanting to reply to you to quote anything from your post without copy-pasting what they want, a bit at a time; and secondly, the colourful comments, however well-intentioned as a way of facilitating the differentiation between the "voices" in the post, are going to irritate some people: it's a solution to a problem which didn't need to exist in the first place.

1- did not know that! I haven't (clearly!) looked into the war room price as i thought i read $37 and assumed it was monthly. I think in that case it is a no-brainer and will sort join as soon as possible!

2 - did not know that about quoting in that manner - i genuinely thought it would be more helpful to reply as it went along, and shall stop doing this!

Thanks for taking your time to point out these things

You need to hire a coach. That's the conclusion I came to while I was hanging out here. Some one who will hold your hand and make you accountable.

I've done the free mentor thing, it doesn't work.

In all honesty free tutors are great but are rare.

Why dont you try Meetup.com, they may have local IM'ers who are apart of this forum and they can train you one on one.

I got a coach from a mentor on this forum and it has been invaluable

If you're looking for a mentor, I would approach people with a "What I can do for you attitude". Find things that you are good at or can help others with and approach potential mentors with ideas of how YOU can help THEM. It sounds a little counter-intuitive but it's the best way to get their attention.

If doesn't have to be a really technical skill either like copywriting or php scripting... You can approach people and offer to write articles for them or offer to build links for them, etc... Be willing to do a little of the grunt work they don't want to do and I promise you'll grab some people's attention.

The other option is to pay for it. When people recommend getting a mentor in blog posts or forum threads, they are usually referring to paying someone to show you the ropes. I am good friends with Chris Farrell and I think he's actually an excellent start...

Just a few things to think about...

    Matt

I agree with the others on this, it depends on whether you are looking for a free mentor or a paid one. I had a free mentor before and here is the thing about a free mentor they are probably still building as well so the information that you will receive may or may not be as good as if you were with a paid mentor. Alternatively, you can use this forum, reviewing the section for the area that you are interested in, find the person who has the information you are looking for and read their posts. Learn from them by watching what they do and do what they do. As you gain the experience you will be able to approach this person with the "what can I do for you?" attitude and maybe even possibly be able to afford this person's time.

I know this may not be the most ideal answer but in my personal opinion this would be a good way to go. As you can see I have been here a while but I didn't post, I just watched and read. Followed those who provided me with the information that I found useful and began to build my own company. I now have a company that is profitable and I feel confident in sharing my experience with others.

It takes time and dedication but you can find your path.

    Alan,

I often see people ask about mentoring (free or paid) and quite often the given advice involves spending quality time in the forum, reading various threads, participating in discussions, etc.. Joining the War Room (which is brilliant, btw), researching stuff on Google. All that sort of thing.

The problem with all that is that's how, in my belief, new marketers become overloaded with information and catch the dreaded "chasing the latest shiny object" disease. I should know, I've been through that myself.

Don't get me wrong, the WF is a fantastic source of marketing and related wisdom. The knowledge (not to mention freebies) that you will get inside the War Room are way beyond the price of admission...

However, at some point, you simply must find one successful marketer whose persona, teachings, approach to marketing resonate with your own aspirations and I would advise you to watch that person like a hawk. Follow what they do in the marketing space, how and why they approach all the different facets of marketing and start to model your own business on theirs.

Get on their list, start to interact with them but try and be helpful, do not ever become annoying (!!!).

Buy their products, write comments and reviews in their forum thread and on their Blog, FB page, Twitter stream... People love attention, so be visible and become someone whose name they will eventually recognise and THEN, you contact them and ask for mentoring. And you may even get it for free.
