"Giving away free material" is almost an essential, really ... because lists get built up through people opting in, and you need to offer something of perceived value to encourage people to opt in, and it also has to be something of actual value to encourage people to open your subsequent emails after they've opted in.

Putting it simplistically, the purpose of offering the incentive is to get the opt-in, and the purpose of providing it is to get the open-rate. Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, here.

So what you're really asking, I think, is "how to drive traffic to a squeeze page?", or at least "how to drive traffic to a page containing an opt-in, even if not technically a squeeze page per se"?

There are many ways of doing this, to be sure ... I'm just kind of trying to "prompt" you to focus on exactly what you're asking about.

Another option is to buy a solo ad from another list owner - this is when they send out an offer or endorsement towards your site/squeeze page. Anyone on their list who is interested then clicks through to your landing page that offers 'X'. They simply have to enter their first name and email to instantly receive 'X'. So you're effectively trading their contact details for 'X'. Normally you'd have them verify it was their real email address as they'll need to verify it's ok for you to send 'X'. This way you build your list by piggybacking onto someone else's much larger list. You can donthe same thing via a list swap deal with someone else. Good Luck!

Also you can do forum marketing. All this means is you participate in forums and at the end of each post you have your signature with your link to your squeeze page.

If you have a free pdf to give away, you can always upload the first few pages on free ebook sites like slideshare and scribd. Then at the end, send them to your squeeze page to sign up and download the full report.

Solo Ads and Adswaps have been what I've been using over the last few weeks to build a quality list..

You're best to start off buying a couple of Solo's to get your initial list started, once you've built a list with a couple hundred of subscribers move onto doing some adswaps.

If you have a budget, try and get approved into a CPA network to help build your list quicker..

Well there are really great suggestions already as to the many methods...so if I may just add...as to your list, just ensure to establish a trusting relationship with your subscribers to create lifetime customers

Wow I'm surprised that know one mentioned Product or Software promos...

Of course this is if you have your own product (Ebook, Audio, Video, Software script...) or can create one.

I know that this part will sound a little strong, but I don't mean it that way, Lol)

1. You Target an Indivual that you want to work with. You analyze what he or she is selling. You then create a product or whatever(See description above) that complements the person's product ... membership site or whatever.

2. What you create CANNOT BE CRAP! It has to provide real value to the person that you want to work with.

3. You price the product accordingly. You create a page to sell the product that complements the person that you want to work with. You then tell them that they can have 100 percent of the sales from the product. But, their people must go through your registration, update or whatever you want to call your page to have access to download the product.

4. Why would someone agree to this. You have given them free content that complements what they are already selling. You are giving them 100 percent of the sales to the product.

5. What's in it for you? You get to build a list. (*** BUYERS LIST***) Hello.
