The cart before the horse, Proven not to work!

G'day

I just wanted to quickly make a comment about planning and getting things together BEFORE you whip out your credit card and start spending the rent.

the reason I wanted to say this is:
I have a small Fiverr gig where i write PPC ads for people. They get 5 ads for 5 bucks. PPC is strong suit for me and I write ads pretty well. I have done over 100 of these gigs.

In more than 50% of the cases when I ask for the keywords that the person will be targeting they cannot tell me.

I find this very troubling as these people are obviously ready to spend money yet they have done ZERO research and hope that my $5 gig will make them rich.

The only people getting rich are Google and Facebook.

I try and give advice and I try and help, but I can't save these people. I even show them a link to get $20 free ads to do some testing. 3 people have taken that offer?

PLEASE when you are going in to any advertising campaign or PPC program, get the order right first before spending money!

1. Select a MARKET (note this is FIRST)
2. Select a product (Suited to the market from step 1)
3. Select Target Keywords by actually doing research. Yes Research.
4. Ok you can your ORDER ADS NOW, NOT BEFORE!!!!
5. TEST
6. TEST some more
7. Analise testing
8. DUMP what does not work
9. LEAVE WHAT DOES! Do Not change things that are working.
10. Commence full campaign
11. Constantly monitor and fine tune
12. Book vacation and order Ferrari

(I may have left out some steps, this is just to make a point)

In anything you do PLANNING is essential, as is having a goal.

"I want people to be my ****" is not a plan!

I want to sell dog leashes from amazon to dog walkers using the keywords (Dog leashes, dog walking leads, walk more than one dog)
Is at least having a base from which to work on.

I hope some one gets something from this rant.

Oda.

    Great rant!

Yeah all too often it is easy to get so excited about something that you think if you just start randomly throwing money at it you will be making millions. It takes hard work and research. Any "guru" that says that you can pop up ads and start making thousands on the first day is a liar!
