About to sell a website, need your advice

Hi there,
I saw lots of people are selling website with 'future' potential for hundreds of dollars. NOw I need your advice, I have a website that's now in Google page 1 with decent "buying type" of traffic. I'm planning to sell this but although it's getting traffic but still make no money at all....

How much do you think should I sell this? I really have no idea...

It depends on the domain name. What's the name?

That's a tough question. I've seen people selling websites that are not making money yet for hundreds of dollars. But you'll have to do some research by going through similar sites and the traffic they receive to figure out how much you should charge.

However, if I were you, I would do some more promotion to start making money. Then you would be able to charge a lot more than as it is.

    Just my 2 cents...

Flippa is the number market place to fling your site but this also depends on a number of factors like the domain name age, traffic, earnings and few others.

Without income proof, it is really hard to get a decent price.

Even on Flippa it's tough to get a great price without revenue. I have sold several sites through Flippa and one through a broker. Everyone wants proof of revenues. If you don't want to invest time and money in the site to boost the value, then consider selling it at a lower price now and focus your efforts on something else that would be more profitable.

Anyone's guess how much someone would pay if the site makes zero revenue. I doubt that you would get much for it.

Pricy website means good conversion the buyer can get from the site. If the domain age of your website is more than 2 years, you can sell them for a good deal on your side.

There is value in the traffic you're getting. You might want to base your price on say 6 months of what someone might pay on adwords to get your same traffic. Then find people who are looking for that type of traffic to sell to. Good luck!

You just never know with websites. With some buyers, it's all about how much revenue there is. With others, it's whether it will fit into their existing website portfolio. If it looks good, and has quality content, they'll buy it rather than make one themselves orhaving to outsource.

In actual fact I sold a website on flippa last year, that was just 3 to 4 months old and it had no income. In those few months, I had worked fairly hard on it though. It's worth thinking outside the box with sites. Anyway, that went for $4,000.

Without seeing your site I can't be more specific, but always think positive. It'll suprise you sometimes as to what people will pay.

Hi stevefinch, I just looked at your site, it's sold for 4k, but in there you didn't put 'revenue claimed' which means it doesn't generate revenue, nor in advertising.

How did you sell it for 4k? It's a nice price, you know.

    thx

I just told it how it was in the advert, without going overboard on the "potential" side of things.

My original plan was to keep it for at least a year. In that time I would have been promoting it, adding plenty of new content, produced an offline magazine, and would have run competitions. I had a few t-shirts printed which I gave away in competitions, and handed out on beaches.

I always intended selling it, and hoped to tempt some media company into buying it. But as can happen sometimes, I grew bored with it, and decided to sell it. I had listed it a few days before this listing and it was bought for $2k, but they never came through with the money.

So I relisted it, and immediately got an inquiry from a guy who'd seem it first time round. He offered $4k and I accepted it. He's since changed the look and doesn't seem to be doing much with it, which is a shame.

With your site, I'd list it for sale and see what the interest is. With what you've said about it, someone is going to want that site.

I wish you all the best with it.

The traffic and SERP position is the plus points of your site. You can sell it at great prices

This depends on the niche and the keyword that you are on page #1 for. Does that keyword have a decent amount of search volume that you are on page 1 for? does the web site make money as of right now? how does the web site make money? affiliate, adsense, sales, etc?

I am a web site flipping expert and have had plenty of sold web sites under my belt. My signature says it all.

But the key point is here, is what will the buyer have to do to make his money back and how old would that take. Let me know if you have any questions, i'd be happy to help ya with it the auction.
