How to make a Classified Adds Wordpress Site?

Hi warriors,

As someone who has but little experience in actual web design, I prefer to use Wordpress platform which makes it really easy to set up a website.

I was wondering, how does one set up a classified ads wordpress site, if it's possible at all? If so, does it require a lot of work and how convinient is it?

I would ask only people who actually had experience with setting up such websites to give their opinions.

Greatly appreciate any input!

Kind Regards,
Zannix

Yes, there is a plugin called classipress which can help you build a classified site using wordpress. Just google it out and you will see all the details of the plugin.

    Best of luck.

There is also a good WordPress plug-in called "AWPCP". Search for it in Google/

That's a tough market to be successful in though. The competition is astronomical and the free Craigslist is the real killer. Niche sites are far easier.

      Thank you all!

I'm actually thinking of making a locally based website, so should be a bit easier.

Great idea. The local market is definitely the way to go with classifieds. Best of luck!

Just in case you aren't aware, you aren't allowed to spam the forum with ads for your products and services. That's what WSOs and the Classified sections are for.

    You could try this.
    Classifieds Theme - Wordpress Classifieds

I use Shopperpress for several sites. Easy to use, so I would assume so is this.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Actually wrong. It's pointless to go into broad classifieds because there are sooooo many of them it's ridiculous, now if you keep it local you have a very good chance, because in most cases you are only competing with craigslist.
If you want to jump into classifieds make sure you narrow it down. For example, I'm working on another classifieds web site - Bimmer Mart . It targets BMW Enthusiasts.

We'll to each their own, I'm more of a gambler than just betting on a sure fthing... I've been blessed in the past when I was told the market was too saturated as it is... If I've not learned anything, I've learned that no matter what the idea is, there is always a better one...

The market is not all that saturated, you just gotta move above the bottom feeders... Once I get to the first page of google, I will be just fine... The media doesn't even speak of craigslist anymore because of all the negativeity surrounding em... And you probably haven't even heard of another one from the media that is... As far as that goes... Backpage.com is slowly creeping up on craigslist... It would be very safe to say that in less than 2yrs, they will be the new classified king! Then you've got Bonqo.com, who recently got into the classified ring and they are moving up like a rocket!! But, lets not forget about oodle.com - Yea, they have a large following also, millions of viewers per month! Oh yea, what about eBay classifieds... They are #3... But speaking of your bmr website... The largest/greatest auto site out there is autotempest.com... I could go on and on, like I said... I've researched this for awhile now, I have got a lot of time and money invested in this, along with other peoples as well, statistics state that as of right now, only about 1/2 of the worlds population is on the internet... 1/2!! So, there is plenty of sites still to go around for the new comers... lol

Thanks for this post. It's given me a new income idea.

I have an old car enthusiast's website that gets 5,000 unique views a month based on a brand of classic American car (I owned one so built a site around them). I get requests via email sometimes asking if I know where I can get this or that part.

I'm thinking a type of "swap meet" or "parts for sale/wanted" section might be useful. I could charge a small fee per ad ($5.00?) and see if anyone wants to sell something or place an ad. The site has recently been converted to a wordpress site so a classified plug in would work in this application and might even make me a few extra bucks. It might even be a good earner. 5,000 people coming to one place for one very specific subject is a great place for a market place. Swap meets are often picked to death by 8am so old cars (of which I'm proudly one) are keen to buy parts. My aim is is to sell the site eventually so even a a few extra bucks in classified income might be a good thing. Maybe up sell a footer spot or sidebar or even take a page from Allen's book and charge for bumps.

This would probably not be a good idea for a new site but I already have these consistent 5,000+ unique visitors coming (and have been for years) I may as well see if I can be useful to them. Yes, there is ebay or a forum but this is very targeted so it might work better.

I'll check out these plugins - thanks.

There are a number of classified themes for WordPress... and classipress is the best of the bunch IMO (based on actually buying, and testing the themes)

There are a ton of classifieds websites out there....and even offering free services does not get you far. I don't care how experienced you are at seo and marketing, you must have a niche to even remotely compete!

I have rights to a really nice classifieds script for wordpress...have experience with it, and can host you through GoDaddy.
    Hit me up for details.
