Improving Productivity in IM

Hi Warriors,

In the IM many of us gets easily diverted while working on the laptop either part time during evenings or weekends.

Activities like facebook browsing, youtube videos, funny pics, lot of time for email readings, other unwanted stuff distract us continuously.. even things like doing keyword research very often (more than its needed), checking EMD domain names even though we still have plenty untouched, are all time wasters.

Any tips on how to be focused on stuff that help us in the IM like article writing, backlink generation, outsourcing and any traffic generation methods ?

Also i think working with many browser windows opened is considered productive (sometimes over productive) i lose my focus and things get liquidated.

Other pain is registering way too many domain names (I agree im so greedy that i just register the name thinking ill implement the website someday soon)

how to avoid this and how to restrict too many choices in general?

Pls share your views and help us grow productive in IM

Thank you
Jai

Maybe you should block social networks using OpenDNS if you can't control it. You can register many domain names as long as you'll do something with them within the year. I think you should write your plans first before jumping from one venture to another. It will generally make things simpler and easier.

I found a tool that can help you focus. It works great for me when I needed to get things done. It uses the principle of pomodoro technique. You can read all about it here - Best of all, it's free!

The best way I do is using a software called 'Action Enforcer' It uses a psychological principle called time boxing that helps you to complete your tasks at massive speed and also keeps you on track to move towards your goal. I have become efficient since I have started using it. Also it is a cheap software that you can use...

Action Enforcer is very good. I use it, too.

This is what helps me: I write down what I need to do in order of importance and I start doing that list first. When I finish one thing, I go on to the next thing.

Also, I basically focus on one method at a time. When I master that and I either do it myself quickly and without too much concentration or I outsource it, I start the next method. I used to do a little bit of everything and got nowhere.

I check my Adsense / Clickbank / Amazon / etc. stats last.

Also, I don't pick up the phone when I work. At breaks or in the evenings I call back the people that left messages.

Good Luck! Focus and productivity is something that pays to work for. It wasn't always easy for me (still isn't, as I'm more of a scatterbrain!), but I'm getting better.

Focus on a task and complete it. It's all about being passionate about what you are doing and becoming addicted to it.

Although you've hired "the greatest boss in the known universe" - you - you've still got to treat this as a business, not a pastime. If you putz around and the work doesn't get done - on time, on budget - who's to blame?

Buying domain name prematurely can work in your favor if you'll discipline yourself to least put up an adsense site with minimal content until you have time to build what you had in mind.

With Wordpress, just clone a universal, basic website, make the appropriate edits to each one, and you're up and running very quickly - less than an hour for one or two, no more than a single afternoon if you've got a dozen or score or so to set up.

Meanwhile, over the next few days, weeks, months, you can use snippets of time here and there to work on the "real" one; then make the switch all at once - and watch those shekels transform into talents virtually overnight!

If you don't take action, by the time the renewal comes around you'll have zero content, income traffic and zero income. How likely are you to renew them if they're nothing but a drain on bank account? If they're paying their way and even giving you a tiny profit, you'll probably keep them - AND find renewed motivation to follow through on them ASAP as originally planned.

Oh, I love action enforcer. I bought it on sunday, started with it this morning and I've a lot of things done.

The main thing I love about it is that by setting timers, it gives me this little pressure. it feels like I need to be as quick as possible before the timer goes off and I should not waste time.

Today, I did my daily success routine for 15 minutes ( I went over my vision board, my goals using the principle of the 3 subject notebook and I went over some videos and will smith on youtube like this one )

Then I did some cpa stuff and I was just writing my next (and first) wso.

I already did more things that I normally do. I think It's that gentle pressure that I need to finish before the counter is down and stuff. I love it it's great. It helps me be super focused.

I've also bought a products a year ago on brainwave entrainment and I felt super focused, even a little bit too much :-) I really was in my zone (I call it the genius zone) that was amazing.

    Hope it helps

I think the best tool is your brain. I know this may not be easy to do but it comes down to what is important to you? Are you taking your IM business seriously?

Set aside a certain amount of time for 'fun' each day facebook..etc and the other is time to get down to business and make some money.

There is no such tool on how you can improve your productivity in the IM business, regardless if you tried to block social networking sites from opening in your browser, remember, you can unblock those sites whenever you want to. I agree with fellow warrior Steven here, that the best tool we have is our brain, and if I may add, discipline. Regardless if there are social networking sites in the browser, as long as you stick to your focus and have the discipline to set task and schedule for your task, I don't think these distractions could even encroach in your work. Easier said than done, since it will take focus and passion to avoid these distractions, one has to overcome himself from succumbing to the distractions. It's what they call, "will power". The "will" to be productive in business
Improving our productivity always relies on us; we cannot rely on tools or techniques. It should start from within, instils discipline to ourselves and be professional during work time. Although I always have this in mind that, doing business like the IM business should be enjoyable but at the same time, be professional. We are our own boss to our business, and let us not abuse the setup.

I would have to disagree with your statement. Yes, YOU have to change but there are certainly tools to facilitate the process.

    My tip: Stop caring.

I used to spend hours on social networks but then I began to stop caring because so much of the stuff people were sharing wasn't really all that interesting to me including a lot of conversations. I use social media now just to connect with people (as it was intended) but I don't really focus on it for marketing because I rather put that time toward creating content for my community.

I know it's odd to hear but just learn to let go - ya know?

Some of it is simply discipline... forcing yourself to sit down, turn off the distractions and just get on with it... and only then do timers and tools help!

Action Enforcer is very simple and very cool because you can combine several tasks, prioritize and you realize you don't have as much time as you really want which (en)forces you to work faster.

Failing that you write down your 4 most important tasks, allocate an amount of time to each one, get a timer and crack on in relatively short bursts (eg. 30 - 60 mins).

Don't think I could do the Eben Pagan thing and work standing up!

I've got the exact same problem and its pretty damn annoying, normally when I write posts for my blog I just switch off my internet and that normally helps then switch it on once again when I'm ready to post the article or require any bit of internet use.

Have a plan of weekly goals and daily goals. If you fail...do it fast.

I write them all out my daily tasks each day, and them I make sure I follow it
