A newbie with no traffic!!

hello warriors,

Firstly, hello!! im Tom Lawton, i have just signed up to WF on the recommendation of a good friend of mine who is helping me get started in IM.

I have set up a blog (tom-lawton.com), and am blogging about setting up a blog to help others in my position but i am just not sure of the right angle to get the traffic i need to eventually make money from my blog. it is still very early days, in fact, i only got introduced to this 'line of work' in the last three weeks!!

so i have been told to start getting involved and posting on WF as this will get my mane around and get me a bit more traffic, but does anyone have and other ways i can 'hustle' to get traffic?

i have posted on facebook but my friends don't really understand and i have set up a youtube account so i can make a few vids soon, i have some products and videos that i will be giving away for free soon aswell.

But all of this is pointless without traffic, right?

All help is greatly appreciated and i look forward to getting to know some of you on here. i know this isnt an easy ride, im in it for the long hall and am super exited about the next few months/years even though im at the bottom of the ladder ATM!!

Thanks folks

Tom Lawton

Welcome! Your question is like asking a surgeon how to do heart surgery in a nutshell.

The first thing you need to know about traffic is this...

FREE TRAFFIC: Often takes time and work to get... especially when you don't already have any assets to leverage to get it faster.

PAID TRAFFIC: Costs money but you get it fast.

You probably want to start with free traffic methods then eventually make your way over to paid traffic plus leveraged free traffic methods.

I had virtually no money when I started online too.

Why not start with SEO - Search Engine Optimization?

Do some Warrior searches and find out all you can about it.

Despite how much great free information is on this board, having been in this business for 10 yrs myself I can tell you there is a LOT to learn. Some is very technical, some is motivational, some is writing and selling, a lot is KEYWORD RESEARCH and a lot is READING FORUMS, reading WSOs. The best advice I can give you is

    JOIN THE WAR ROOM
its not free, but I think if you notice ALL THE KNOWLEDGABLE people on warrior forum, almost 100 percent are war room members.

the money you spend, I think its 30 something dollars not sure
is the best money you will EVER spend on IM knowledge. The information in that room is far more valuable than some of the information you can get in the other forums on this site, and its all free once you get inside. I have downloaded probably 100 WSOs that would probably have cost me 1000 dollars if I paid for them, in that room, its an amazing place

    Welcome Tom,

Jason told you about two ways to GET traffic and I want to tell you about the two TYPES of traffic.

    Search Driven and Content Driven.

Search driven traffic is like someone going to the Yellow Pages and looking for something specific.

Content driven traffic is like someone watching a t.v. show and when the commercial comes on and you make a note to check out the product, or website.

It's easier to get people that are specifically searching for something if you have the solution.

It's a lot harder to get someone from Facebook or Twitter to your site because they are not looking for your offer. They are involved in something already and you are interrupting their activity and trying to persuade them to stop what they are doing and come to your site.

When starting out, it is a lot easier to find a group of people searching for something and then have the solution. They are looking for you and not the other way around.

The problem is that there is a lot of competition on the front page of Google and it takes a lot of work to compete for one of the top ten spots.

This is why a lot of folks here talk about looking for "low hanging fruit" as an easier way to get traffic.

This involves looking for search terms (keywords) that get enough searches to get some decent traffic but not too much competition.

You should start researching here by doing a search above for "traffic" then learning more in more detail.

If you want free traffic then I will personally recommend seo but it will take time. Traffic is thing which you can not get within 1 day. Work hard. Optimize your blog. Write articles in article directories, write press releases, comment in forums with your signatures and submit your blog to as many search engines and directories as you can.

    Hi Tom,
In my experience, article marketing is one of the best ways of getting free traffic to your site, it will take time and you need to be consistent with it but it will get you results.
There's also web 2.0 option (squidoo, Hub pages etc.) I found these are slightly quicker as search engines love them. Depending on how you are going to monetize your blog, you need to target a market that is looking for solutions; You don't want to create a need, you want to fulfil an existing need.

You are on the right track, especially opening a YouTube account.

With a little keyword research it's amazing how easy it is to get first page listings.

But you need A LOT videos. A lot of whatever you are doing.

      Consistent action over time.

You may want to create a blog that has the keyword in the domain name. Your blog will probably get very few first page Google listings, unless people are searching for a blog with your name on it.

For instance, if you looked in the Google keyword tool and found out that
there are 1000 searches a month for the keyword, BEST BLOGGING TIPS, and then you found out that that bestbloggingtips.com (or .net or even .org) is available, you would buy the domain and put up the blog.

NOTE: In the Google keyword tool, after you run the first search, in the left hand column look for the box by EXACT and check it off. It gives you a more accurate result. The other 2 options, PHRASE and BROAD are hyperinflated.

If you find something with thousands or tens of thousands or more exact matches, you will generally find the .com .net and .org domains are taken, but 1000 is good. I sometime buy domains with 480 exact searches. That's the low hanging fruit another poster was talking about.

Then, with not too much work or time, you would probably get on the first page of Google search results for that keyword. The more backlinks you get it from article marketing, and web 2.0 sites, etc., the higher you may be able to push it.

You will get quite a few monthly TARGETED visitors from that SEO method alone. Then if the content is good, you will find your visitors linking to you which will bring you more traffic, plus maybe even push you closer to the # 1 spot.

At number 1, you are generally going to get half or even more than half
of the clicks. No guarantee you'll get it, of course, but you should make sales and have money to buy more domains for more niche sites that are keyword domain based.

I am new like you Tom. I have so far written a few articles and am on a Question and Answers forum.

You may wonder why I am posting. I am also living in the Nottinghamshire area and felt a need to try and help a fellow neighbor.

Go to microworkers and do small and quick, ( I mean 60 second quick) jobs for $0.50 to a dollar. It will be converted for you in your paypal.

What you can also do with these dollars is leave them on your account and pay people to book mark or tweet your work. You will see what I mean better if you take a look. It is free to join.

Good look on your money making journey Tom. It is certainly a hard but well worthy slog.

    Take care Ddraig x

Ideally you need to concentrate on specific keyword phrases - that you want traffic on. There is lots of good information on how to do good keyword research.
Then a combination of good on page SEO - again lots of Free info out there
and then off page SEO (article writing, blog commenting) and Social Media and Web 2.0 work. (wordpress.com blogs, squidoo, hubpages, tumblr, twitter - etc)
What you are trying to do is to become an "authority" in your niche.
That is how I get my sites to rank on Page 1 Google - and get traffic
