Suggestions From You Warriors on How to Promote a Non Content Site/Niche?

What I mean is I have a friend who works for a decently sized law firm, and he asked me to help his business' placement in the SERPs.

I know how to promote a content site, that is a blog type site where you can create lots of relevant posts and content on your niche and rank them individually in the SERPs; but how do you promote something as limited as a law firm?

It's not as if I can create a blog on their website and create lots of keyword rich posts about why people need lawyers.

I'd love some suggestions here Warriors!

Why can't you add a blog? They could add posts if they have a particularly interesting piece of law to argue, if they take on new members of staff, if one of their staff gains a new qualification. They could blog about the areas of law that they specialise in - how the law in those areas affects their clients, any new judgements or interpretations of the law that they think their clients should know about.

Leaving aside the blog, if you are using the main body of the site to gain ranking I would suggest that you stick to 2 or 3 tightly targeted keywords that you can optimise the site name, meta tags and content around. Good on site seo is a good way of gaining ranking.

If you are using wordpress there are plug-ins that help with onsite seo - obviously a good seo plug-in such as all-in-one-seo pack is a good starter. I also use seo smart links, an xml site map and sometimes a plug-in that adds the search terms used to find your site.

I suppose I could add a blog to the site. Maybe I'm thinking too 2-dimensionally. I did have the thought of optimizing the main page for keywords such as lawyers + city name, etc.

It seems to me that the internet or more specifically search engines are continuing to move in the direction of content sites and sites made up of lots and lots of pages so the blog may be a necessity actually.

Thanks, and anyone else please I'd love more feedback!

You don't need to call it "blog". Call it "news" and remove all the bits that make it look bloggy such as the footer and the byline.

Or the law firm can register a separate domain name
and host it. They can discuss latest news or whatever
    regularly on this separate blog.

They can now have links on the blog to their main site
on the side bars. I am assuming they don't want to
interfere with the law firm site.
