How do you determine which blogs to guest post on?

Obviously we want as much link juice and traffic as possible. When looking for blogs to guest post on, is looking at the PR of certain posts on a blog a good indicator of which blogs it is better to post on? Maybe just the PR of the blog itself?

Because I'd imagine that PR doesn't always equate to traffic from a blog.

Beyond just PageRank you want to post on a blog that is the same niche as you. That way the readers are already in your target market and you can convert them into readers on your blog. Making sure the blog you guest post on is the same target market is much more important than PageRank in my opinion.

It relates to very little (if anything). I wish they'd finally do away with it, instead of just making it count for less and less all the time.

Neither interests me enough even to check it.

I decide according to two things ...

    (i) The degree of relevance to my niche and my own site, because that determines how well targeted any traffic will be and how much the backlink's worth to me, and ...

(ii) Whether I'm pretty certain I can re-use previously published content for it, because for the reasons explained here I certainly won't be using "unique" content.

    How influential is the owner/content?
Is there an active community surrounding this blog?
How much back-and-forth commenting goes on?
Do many of the posts have trackbacks under them?
Does the blog even participate in guest posting? How often?
Are there comments from other blog owners?
Do members of this community participate on other other blogs in the niche?

Can you see what I'm driving at here? In my opinion, it's best to size it up on a blog-to-blog basis. Not really hard to do, but requires some manual brain power and not some metric you can read off an SEO tool.

Try to look at every metric. Alexa, etc,etc but PR still remains one of the most important metric if you wanna guest post.

Consider guest posting on blogs that have a high page rank and one whose niche is similar as your blog.
