Help Needed from a more experienced IM

Hi Guys,

Feel slightly embarrassed to be posting this. But I kinda need some help and fast. I have this blog (in my sig) and it's just doing nothing to make me any money. I've injected some money in myself for redesign and SEO (mainly offsite) but whilst the traffic may pick up when i do this, i get nothing from even the affiliate links.

At the moment affiliate marketing is all I'm interested in, and I know i need to start building up a list but am really wary of the kind of success rates with email marketing. Hence Im really looking for a decent free product to giveaway before I start engaging in this aspect from the site.
Can someone point me in the right direction for improving things or even better still offer their mentoring service?

Thanks

Dom

P.S Apologies for the length of this post.

    Hi Dom,

first of all your blog looks just fine, actually I like it's design.

My suggestion would be to write more articles, you need to fill your blog up with usefull informations, to be linked better and to get thousands of traffic from search engines. SEO itself dosn't help that much, if the search engines robots don't see enough information on the web, it counts for normal websites and much more for blogs.

You are right, you need to build your list. But to be able to do that, you also need traffic. It all starts there.

It will take some time, but you can get a lot of traffic from forums and other sources that are for free. You may find tons of information about "how to get traffic" here on WF. Just search for it.

I agree with Adam, the site looks good and is laid out well, but the content is thin. You need to be posting a lot more than once or twice a month if you're looking for traffic (and hence sales, advertising, etc).
Figure out how you intend to earn with this site. For example are you looking at:
    advertising revenue
    affiliate revenue
    selling a service
    selling your own product
    Etc.

Then list out all the things needed to make each one happen and start working on them daily. Will take a bit of time, but it'll come for sure!

Drop me a line if you need any help.

I don't mean to sound rude, but I would be slightly embarrassed in your position, as well.

It's always a little bizarre when people running these "how to make money online" sites come here enquiring desperately as to why their site is struggling to make any money. And it's even more bizarre when they more or less answer their own questions with statements like "I know i need to start building up a list but am really wary of the kind of success rates with email marketing."

Well surely any measure of success with email marketing - however small - is going to trump what you're currently seeing (i.e. nothing), isn't it? It can't be much worse.

Take your pick: something or nothing.

Few people - especially affiliates - in the IM/MMO markets earn without a mailing list.

As an affiliate, you need to build trust with your prospects so that your product/service recommendations hold weight and are acted upon. Trust-building takes time and repeated contact, and you can't very well achieve repeated contact in the first place without some form of mailing list / autoresponder.

If you want to make some money, now's the time to stop just "knowing", and start actually doing.

      This ^^^.

I also don't mean to sound rude, Dom, but what on Earth are you doing training (your word) people how to make money online, when you can't make any money online yourself?

I promise I'm not trying to add to your embarrassment but it's The Question That Won't Go Away, here, isn't it? And the solution you ultimately need comes from resolving it. You need to choose a suitable niche for yourself. This isn't one.

    Hi Dom,

I have to agree with Michael. Even as an affiliate, I feel that the route to long term success in Internet Marketing is learning how to be a brilliant online marketer. This means choosing a marketing strategy, getting really good at driving traffic to your web-site, BUILDING A LIST and forming a good relationship with that list.

This is the backbone to becoming successful online.
If you want to learn about marketing strategies that will drive traffic to your web-site, drop me a line. I also have a free product that you can give away.

Your site baffels me. It's an internet marketing blog but your featured post is about Guitar hero? Do I detect an autoblog gone haywire? My advice is ditch the IM niche for the moment. There's too many people in it who know what they're doing. Most of them internet marketers funnily enough. Your site looks pretty good though. Pick a decent keyword in building sheds or something. Create a similar site. Do a clickbank product review with an affiliate link and get a few high pr links. Give away a free email course if you want to build a list. You can find them all over the place. They work great because your building a relationship with the customer. You'll make a hell of a lot more money than with the site you have now. You'll also know what you're doing when you want to go back to the IM niche.

I'm not an expert. But if I were in your position, I would take a day offline to give serious consideration to what you know about and decide on a certain niche.

There are many ways to make money online, and it doesn't have to be a "how to make money online" subject.

Find out what you know, what you enjoy, what you are passionate about, devise a marketing and business plan, implement it, and success will follow.

All I am hearing about is your need to make money. I am not hearing about your customer's needs.

The way to start online is by learning about the community you want to help and what their needs are. Then you find/create products to help them.

When you are doing this ONLY to make money, this comes across and people go elsewhere.

I recommend the book, "Attracting Perfect Customers" to help you with this.

If I were you I would put together a small ppc campaign to drive traffic to your blog. You could also network with other smaller blog owners...just do a google search...and get your links on their site.

Also write IM related articles based on a area where you have expertise, and use that guest article as a link back to your site.

To my mind, this is by far the easiest way for most people ...

      *A-a-achoo!!*
