How do you copyright audio?

I know that if I write an ebook, I can add that copyright page at the beginning of the ebook.

But how do I copyright an audio guide? Do I need to add something like "this guide is copyright..." at the end of it?

You hire an attorney and give them a copy of the media and let them to the rest.

    Hi eduard,

It's really easy to copyright audio, it's not free but easy.

All you have to do is go to the United States Copyright office website.

You can either register online or by mail, i'd suggest online which is easier and for less money.

Go to the site and you will figure out what to do from there, they will keep a copy on file so you should be all set.

    Best of luck.

The copyright exists from the moment it is in "fixed form".

However, you won't be able to recover any damages or sue unless it's a registered copyright.

While you can certainly use an attorney to do it, you can also do it online through the US Governement copyright site. It costs $35 per title, and is fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

I did it earlier this year for some of my band's songs.

It will take a few months to get the official copyright document, but the copyright date will be the day you submitted the application along with the audio file.

If you're that concerned about it, spend the $35. Otherwise you can just go with the fact that's copyrighted as soon as done (whether it's published or not).

One HUGE caveat...I AM NOT A LAWYER, so this is only based on my understanding of how the process works in the United States.

    All the best,
    Michael

p.s. I AM NOT A LAWYER, so nothing above should be construed as legal advice of any kind.

@Michael Oksa best advice on this tread, so in effect, to literally answer your question, in the most simple and lowest common terms, stating at the beginning and the end of the recording (for those in the US) would generate a copyright, however, refer to the Michael Oksa post for what is certainly the best method, if you never plan on going to court or you do not think that you will make more than a few hundred bucks from the title, I suspect that a statement would be all that you would need to do, however this is not legal advice, if you feel that you would benefit from receiving legal advice please contact an attorney to guide you in this area.
