Putting a WP theme on my own site

Have you already installed Wordpress?

If so then you can upload the theme in zip format directly in the Wordpress admin screen under Appearance > Themes > Install Themes

You need hosting for your domain. Do you have that? If so, you propbably have Cpanel with it and you can upload a wordpress theme thru that interface.

There are two ways you can Install a theme on wordpress.
First - if your theme in .zip archive you can simply upload the theme by going into your wordpress admin > Look in Apperance box and click themes > Then click Install Theme > Upload and upload your zip archive.

IF your theme not in zip archive you can simply make it .zip by right clicking on the folder > send to > zip archive.

Another way you can install a theme is uploading it to wp-content/wp-themes folder through FTP.

Yes I have hosting, and I do have the C panel, just need to figure out how to do it!

Once you learn how WP works you will LOVE it! Installing the theme has been detailed but then make sure to also look at your widgets, set them up correctly, grab some great plugins.. and have fun! I have been using WP for over a year now and am still finding much needed plugins..

Actually, don't grab any plugin until you understand how they can harm your site. Use them ONLY when it's absolutely necessary!

(FYI: I am using WP for over 7 years... so I may know what I am talking about :p)

Good advice there too Istvan.... In all honesty I am wondering today if "all in one SEO" and permalinks are possibly conflicting... and I do wish I had learned more about this before using permalinks... (In all honesty though, it's the first plugin problem I have encountered in over a year) looong story behind it, but it does make me realize that your advice is dead on.

I'm always pleased with the amount of support and offers of help that I see on this forum.

I did get into the C Panel and used Fantastico to get me going. I have now installed WordPress on my site and have been fiddling around with it for an hour or so. Got some text up and added a photo. So I am pretty pleased with myself

Our business site is done with WordPress but I did not create it. I had a web designer do it, and am happy with the results. He did not give me access to 100% of it, so that I would not screw up the PayPal/Order Form section and I am alright with that. I have a new web guy who does that sort of thing for me. I can and do update the more basic stuff, so I do have some experience with it.

Putting a wordpress theme on my own site was a whole new ballgame for me and tho it took me a bit, it all worked just fine and so far I am happy.

I appreciate the help here very much so thanks again! I may yet have some questions but so far so good!

Hey, way to go for chipping away at it (no pun intended there...or maybe). That is truly the way to learn.

WP theme is actualy a combination of html and php. These are just code that can be used anywhere. Why dont you use wordpress dashboard. it as easy as using facebook.
