Does this mean I suck at it?

Have been in an online IM business for a year and a half now, have a website ,have 3 address books with Traffic exhanges I have signed up for - Manual, autosurf, safelists, list jumpers, short links that make you cash, etc. I have autoresponder, list of 25,lost a few - 5, heaps of hits in TEs etc, but have made very little. After 2 years! Roughly,US$200... Been thinking about ad swapping...
Click bank won't let me get the money I have earned, due to CDR rules. I have my suspicions about TE sites....Member of a PTC site, and reached $20000 payout limit, but never got paid...
So does this mean I really suck at IM?

You don't suck at IM, but you are going about it the wrong way. Everyone knows the PTC sites are a scam - and they aren't a "business", they're just a way of passing a bit of time when you're bored!

Traffic exchanges are never going to earn you anything. It isn't real traffic, made up of people that are interested in what you have to sell or to say.

You need to stop wasting your time with all this and concentrate on seo to get real traffic that wants to come to your site. Get stuck into some keyword research and find out what people are searching for, then learn about seo to get ranking in the search results so real people can find you.

Nope it doesn't mean you suck. You haven't tried everything.

    1. Proper keyword research.
    2. Quality content added regularly
    3. Optimize your site and Content with keywords.
    4. Social media such as Facebook and twitter. (Make accounts and add people related to your niche site. when you post your quality content people will come. Also keep adding people.)
    5. Forum posting with link in your signature.(Just just spam, add value to the answers you post.)
    6. Article submission (optimize your articles and submit to directories. have link in your resource section)

There are many other ways to promote or market your site. Always move forward.

If you really want results HJWakelin you have to pick out what is working right now and refine it. Even if what you have chosen doesn't pay out as much as you would like it to, at least it works. Don't write yourself off because you haven't had "success".

HJWakelin, IM is a broad term anyway and it sounds to me like you have been jumping all over the place.

    Let's repeat this:

    Find out what really works.
    Copy it.

Here's one thing I believe you haven't tried.

Sign up for an affiliate program like Peerfly and check out the ringtone offers. Now go to music forums or just really big ones dedicated to gaming and become a frequent member there. When they allow you to have a signature, use that signature to offer your ringtones.

Probably not a "failure" but maybe doing some things the wrong way. There is no easy way to make money online. Do a lot of research and find out what works for you.

No mate, as long as you are trying and learning few bits along the way you should be fine.

May be it might help to take few days off, clear your mind and pick just 1 thing and start working on it.

Who knows may be you could even write a WSO of the list of things you did the wrong way and now you learned which could potentially save a newbie spending hundreds in not thousands in IM.

      Cheers,
      Vincent

Wow! Thanks guys! I haven't had this much comments ever! On any forum article sites, etc unless it was a rant about religion! Great advice will try all! ahhh...I think maybe I should stick to the site I'm affiliated to,and have a website to, list etc as I realize I have been a "hopper", and learn all Chris Farrell has to teach! I think this maybe where I'm going wrong.Maybe starting Monday, spend a whole month, from A to Z, relearning all he teaches there...
But I feel I need to put ads out there...got to at least to get some hits, possible subscribers....I have joined an auto surf program that generates me some traffic and sign ups...

I think your just focusing on the wrong things. Get out of 1999 and join 2011 internet marketing. adswaps, traffic exchanges, PTC, and auto surf stuff out outdate and nobody does that stuff anymore. Either focus on google traffic or some for of social media or forum marketing. You will make money faster this way

You should focus on the two "real" traffic source categories. Organic traffic and Paid traffic.

The word "organic" is used to describe most non-paid traffic which fits into "natural" surfing patterns. Natural ~= Organic. Traffic exchange is most definitely not organic. I say natural surfing patterns to mean things like this:

Search engine results - from SEO work done yourself, or your content gets "popular" and other people do the SEO for you with real links (these are the best kind!).

Typed in or bookmarked - people know about your stuff already and go directly to it.

Viral - your content gets shared on social networks, emails, word of mouth, etc.

Email list - traffic from your subscribers clicking links in the emails you send.

Under the Paid Traffic heading we have just as many options. In my opinion, paid traffic is usually a step up from starting with organic. But, it can certainly be done when starting out as well, without having experience in organic traffic generation. Paid traffic generally is very targeted, and the targeting methods vary from keywords to demographics to personal interests.

Here are the usual suspects in Paid Traffic:

PPC, Pay Per Click. The most common paid traffic source, where you pay only for the clicks on your ad. Google Adwords, Facebook, Bing/Yahoo, and many other big sites are places to get PPC traffic.

CPV, Cost Per View, often incorrectly called PPV or Pay Per View. This uses user-approved adware to display popup ads. Targeting is usually based on the URL the user is visiting, but can also be done by keywords and general topics, etc.

CPM is a strange acronym that somehow means "cost per thousand displays of your banner ad". This is also often called Media Buying, but there are some areas which the two do not overlap (Media Buying which doesn't use a CPM price model, and CPM advertising which isn't really Media Buying). This can be done on Facebook, or on a multitude of media buy advertising services, or on a per-site bases.

There are more lesser known methods in both categories as well.

Pick one of these and focus on it. Also, choose your starting-out niche(s) based on what is interesting to you, or what you are very knowledgeable about - not based on what you think will make money. You can make money in pretty much any niche.

You don't suck, you just lack focus. I suggest you learn one system thoroughly, set a small goal and devote all of your energy into achieving it. There's a story Matt Bacak tells about running into the living room to tell his wife, "I made a penny!" Once you know how to make money, you can systemize, outsource, and automate the day-to-day details.

It took many years of experience to get passive income from the internet. Need trial and error and research. Just never give up and try new things.

Totally disagree with it; it just needs time and patience to really familiarize the methods in the IM business. As what fellow warrior had told you, its 2011 and you might just want to adopt the techniques and ways in the 2011 since there are ideas that, I could say, new to the IM business.
And always put this in mind, not everyone can survive in the IM world; you just keep on going and never give up. There is always this trial and error experience that will give us lessons to improve and do better the next time around.
Hard work, perseverance and dedication to the business are all important ingredients to succeed.

Thanks all for your replies and great advice...Has any one used I-contact's Auto-responder? I signed up for membership and got a shock when I saw the price was for the whole year! Phew lucky I didn't push "verify" payment! But am currently using the 30 day trial. Costs $US102 from 27 August 2011 until 31 August 2012. Pretty good. Nice templates, very colorful.$8.90 a month with discount. My concern is do the colorful e-mails actually get to the subscriber?

Guys, I'm quite concerned as I've seen and read several websites, marketers claiming that one will NEVER make money online, as a newbie can't duplicate a business offer and put it up on Google, as the original owner is already there. You'd have to use Google Ad words to do that. And your site would go into the right column of the browser. And, another, states one will never make money online (millions) as most marketers are secretly part of an Illuminati/New World order group, that if you haven't paid and are part of the Elite....You will never make money! Is this true...or just another a scam to get you to pay for useless info?

Get away from PTC and all the free traffic exchanges, they are an itter waste of your time and dedication.

I will say this to anyone starting out, build a foundation of subscribers that are interested in your niche and learn how to monetise the list from day 1.

A buyers list is the best weapon you can ever possess in your arsenal, you dont need a website to do this either and list building can be done for free with a little creativity.

Build a buyers list and dont bombard them with crap give them the occasional free tips and advice and only send them quality products as an affiliate from there you can go on to release your own product preferably in the WSO section and instantly have two main channels to market the product to 1 the forum as the WSO is highly targteted to people buying and the second is your loyal subscriber list that you have treated well and built trust with.

From there on your set as long as the products good that is!!!

    Good luck!

No he didn't. That was one of those scam PTC sites that tells you that you've earned megabucks, but magically never actually pays you.

As for the funny handshake, members only, inner circle - stop reading alarmist blogs/sites that are clearly trying to sell you something.

You don't need to buy anything. All the info you need is right here on the forum. Search, read old posts, search again, read again.

Do some keyword research and find one niche that you are interested in. Concentrate on that. Focus. That's the only way to learn what works and what doesn't for you.

Hey at first I say that pls dnt get frustrated... Dnt just depend on CLickbank, better try with CPA offers, Amazon, Ebay.. and FYI.. doing PTC is merely a time waste (Trust me), instead spend that same time for other thing.. Its now how many years you're doing, instead the PATH to make money you chose is very important. There are people who started to make money $200 per month easily in 2 months.. So go in a path where U make more money.. All the best! past is past... Forget that!!

You're signing up to some of the scammiest programs on the Net. You need to dump all that crap and start building a real business. You're all over the place and getting nowhere.

Pick something you might like to do and build a business. Don't look for the easy way out, that doesn't work, as you've already found out.
