Please help I have been hacked!

Hey warriors

all of my sites which are on shared hosting with hostgator seem to have been attacked. When I try to visit the site I get this warning ( I am using chrome but it is similar in firefox as well)

" www.mysite dot com contains content from counter-wordpress.com, a site known to distribute malware. Your computer might catch a virus if you visit this site.
Google has found that malicious software may be installed onto your computer if you proceed. If you've visited this site in the past or you trust this site, it's possible that it has just recently been compromised by a hacker. You should not proceed. Why not try again tomorrow or go somewhere else?"

Has anyone seen this... and what is the best fix?

Many thanks

Neil

I have just been through this and ironically changed to hostgator to get away from it hehe.

Check your .htaccess file (when you open file manager, there's an option to show hidden files), and scroll down and right because they use tons of spaces and lines to hide the code. Anything from this url or any other you don't know, delete those lines.

Also contact hostgator and get their help, I'm not a tech guy.

The other problem is that google regards your site as a dangerous site, so search for a way to have the reassess it when it's clean.

That sucks, it happened to me as well, and to many of my clients, so I had to learn how to deal with it here is my WSO check it out it will help you find the files with bad code, only files though no DB but the source of problems is always coming from some bad script on a file anyway so it may help you out.

Hostgator are generally very proactive and should be able to sort things out for you.

I would also suggest doing a scan with

Sucuri - Monitor & Scanner dashboard

to tell you exactly what files have been hacked.

I've found that Hostgator is very responsive and helpful, and will clean up your sites and if necessary, restore from a backup no more than a week old. Of course, you do need to make sure that you don't go over the storage limit for them to backup.

    Hi,

    Probably you have been hacked.

I have a basic guide on how to remedy that in my WF Blog.

    Hope it helps.
