Software Ideas

Hi Softmaster,
I'm in a similar position myself. I may be proved wrong but I don't think you'll get many forum members sharing their ideas for software. Mainly because there is nothing to stop them outsourcing that idea themselves. Its the idea that is worth the money the programming can be bought relatively cheaply. You could always sell your skills yourself on elance or similar but I'm guessing they don't pay highly enough for you, hence proving my point.
My advice to you would be to have a go at setting up a marketing site and get it ranking (find an affliate product) At each step see if there are any tools you think of that would be of use to other people. Remembering something you find easy to do may not be so easy for less technical people to do and a new tool might be really helpful to them. So think about what would save people time, money or make their life easier. (basically answer your own questions)
There is are lot of products developed in the marketing area so you may want to target other niche areas. Do some keyword research. For example "Calculators" would show people search for Mortgage Calculators or BMI Calculators, then develop in one of those areas. So you could give away a free calculator and try and market a mortgage product or diet later. Don't use these examples though as they will have tough competition!
Before you start developing the software, first do a thorough search to see if anyone else has a similar product. If they do, think about how yours will be better/different, you may then realise its not worth developing that idea further. Next set up a website to test the market. See if people will opt-in to get your product (even though you don't have one yet). People talk about split testing here, so you might want to try that too (I've never done it). Also ask on forums like you have done but be more targeted about your idea and hopefully you will get more feedback.
So far I have always failed to test the market, thinking my product was great and everyone would want it and I have probably wasted a lot of time for little return. Beleive me even if you give something away for the price of their email address this will be too high a price for some people!

Steve is right. We aren't going to share because the ideas are for ourselves. It's like asking google if you can have their algorithm. There not going to give you their secret sauce. You'll have To do your research on what's selling.
