Would you rather: Big List or Traffic?

Hey Warriors,

Which would you rather have and why?

*Both highly targeted of course

Personally, I've always opted for the traffic as I have more experience generating Adsense revenue, as opposed to affiliate income.

Don't be a smartass and pick the traffic option to then 'build a list'.

It's one or the other in this scenario buddy!

I would like to have a big list! That is my first choice. But you can´t deny that having lots of traffic and build a big list with it would mean a perfect world for marketers

    Saludos

I've got a good sign-up rate with my traffic and this means I don't have to pay to get subscribers.

But if I had to choose it's the list, since that time I got sent to hell by Google.

        Why this question?

Some people have relatively small but highly targeted lists of buyers. That's probably worth more than large lists or tons of traffic, both of which may be browsers or freebie seekers.

They say Twitter is a list. I have 3 Twitter accounts with about 60K totally non-responsive followers. Some list!

Would you like to be more specific about what you mean by list and traffic?

          Hey Max,

You must have missed out the part of my original post where I mentioned that the traffic and list would both be highly targeted in this scenario.

          "Why this question?"

I suppose I could create a hypothetical situation if you like:

You have a website. You also have targeted traffic. If you add an opt-in box to your website your traffic significantly decreases while your list increases.

So, do you build the list and sacrifice your traffic, or not?

I've recently had to make the decision not to build my list, as a pop-up opt-in box decreases my traffic by 2,000 uniques per day.

I'd rather have the Adsense revenue.

I'm a bit stingy ... So I would take the traffic any day over a huge list.

If all things being as you say, and the Traffic is Highly Targeted; I would have to say that I would choose the Traffic every time.

This is because their are marketers out there with small list, that literally Kick the Sh#8^t out of other markerts with list three time their size. And we all know why.

Do the people on your big list Know Who You Are? Do the people on your big list Like You? Do the people on your big list even Trust You? (Really)

Are the people on your big list sitting on Pins & Needles WAITING for for your next mailing? And when you do mail, how many of them RABBIDLY JUMP ALL OVER, any thing you sell or recommend?

If they don't. We all know why. Can we say it together? It doesn't matter what size list you have. It all comes down to what kind of (RELATIONSHIP), that you have with your list.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, just providing VALUE, anywhere I can.

Well sorry for being a smart ass, but I would much rather have traffic than a list. I don't know much about how to make money with a list. But if I was ever to understand how to treat a list well so they didn't all unsubscribe, I could always create a list.

Traffic always comes first. Once you have traffic, then you can figure out a way to make money with it.

    eerrr

guess what you get big traffic from having a highly responsive list.

Say no more....this is probably the best sentence you will read in here today.

So get to work and get creating a big list....then the traffic will come over and over again!!! **wink**

Change the word 'targeted' to 'responsive' and I take the list. Otherwise, give me the traffic and, smartass or not, I'll build my buyers list from that.

It's quite possible to build a 'highly targeted' yet totally nonresponsive list. Which is pretty much worthless.

Having highly targeted traffic, on the other hand, gives the volume needed to test and tweak conversions. Said conversions build the buyers list.

Given that you prefer to generate your income from advertising, I do understand your preference; I'd likely say the same thing in your shoes.

Give me the big list any day of the week!

A targeted mailing list = loyal traffic & money

    plus it's already converted.

You can have tons of traffic but if you can't convert them to your list then it's useless.
