Squidoo is actually pretty good! Stats inside.

I set up a Squidoo in a niche, write up some content and started backlinking. I left it, and just checked back.

I'm right on the verge of page 1. Checking the stats the traffic has been increasing daily. Only 10 days old. 75% from Google.

I've set up articles on hubpages, articlebase and ezine in the past, and done backlinking, and not got them anywhere near page 2. This has kinda surprised me with Squidoo.

I know the traffic is small, but it's in a nice niche. I have 57 unique affiliate clicks. No sales due to linking to the wrong product by mistake. Doh!

Once I hit mid page 1 traffic will me a lot more. But right now I'm really liking squidoo. Seems to get much more traffic quicker, and rank faster, than some of my personal sites, or other authority article sites and blogs.

Excellent for testing the waters.

Squidoo has a good page rank and Alexa ranking. but a lot of people quit using it when they cracked down on the niches and products you can promote on there in 2009. Don't rely on it as your sole income source. If you have found a profitable niche that you really like, you need to start your own blog on your own domain. If Squidoo decides too many people are publishing crappy lenses in your niche and says you can't publish content on your topic anymore, you'll be screwed.

      Hey Joey,

Yeah I totally agree with you bud. I do have lots of my own sites and methods generating income, I was just testing the water with Squidoo as I'd never used it. I tend not to go for the sorts of niches that attract hordes of marketers anyway, but are still competitive.

Hubpages and Yahoo Contributer Network are just as good, if not better.

    an article on Hubpages

an article on Yahoo Contributer Network

Oddly enough, I haven't have any luck ranking on Squidoo - well, nothing beyond a dozen or so visits a day. I think most of these Web 2.0 sites are about equal. It mainly depends on the individual content you use. I like Hubpages a lot because its internal link structure favors high quality hubs, which means mine consistently get 500+ internal links from other hubs that really help them rank.

Besides having an excellent ranking, Squidoo lenses help you easily get traffic from the Squidoo community. You should visit many lenses and leave interesting comments. Many lensmasters will return the favor and leave nice comments at your lenses.

You should ping each lens at pingomatic whenever you have a comment, and each time you update a lens. This way you’ll get more traffic from Google, besides getting traffic from other lensmasters.

This is the second time today I've been reminded to use Squidoo lenses. Honestly, I thought they were pretty much old news, but it seems I was wrong. I'll start using them again but only if I have quality content to post.

This post inspired me to look at my much forgotten Squidoo lenses. A couple of them that are now about 2 years old are bringing in over 200 visits a week. Now that's a surprise for me!

I did know that Squidoo was vastly used due to the high PR, but didn't think they'd rank this quickly. Guess the stories are true . I used to rely more on hubpages than squidoo.

I like Squidoo as well and have actually made a bit of money from my lens there. However, it is just that, a good place to test things out and build back links to other 'money' sites. I think it is a good site to have considerable authority within the Link Wheel!

This is really interesting, I've more or less ignored squidoo except as backlinks since 2009 (or 2008, can't remember) when Google nailed them and dropped basically all the ranking squidoo pages back around 50 spots in the SERPS. I remember it messed up a lot of peoples' income.

Interesting to see they can rank again. There was a time when no matter how many backlinks you threw at it you couldn't rank a squidoo page in the top 10.
