HP touchpad tablets for $99 dirty IM

Probably everyone by today know that HP brought all their tablets for $99 for 16GB and $149 for the one with 32GB.

The reason that HP brought the prices down was they are n't able to compete anymore.

with these prices everyone got crazy and people start standing in front of shops doors and trying to order online.

Now, to be fair I have to say I don't believe they are out of stock (Best buy alone had over 27 million tablet in stock). So, the question will be where are these tablets ? and why the companies don't want to sell it.

The thing that annoyed me is not the fact that they are hiding the product, but that even the big companies like Amazon and BN used unethical methods to collect customer information.

Hundred of thousands of people were allowed to place an order on these website, providing their names, addresses, credit card information. and in 24 hour - 48 hours and email is sent "Sorry, your order is cancelled  "

As a programmer and web developer I don't believe that every company made the exact same mistake. simply because if there is 100 in stock and 100 was ordered no one can make the order number 101 because the logic say so.

This is not a mistake or an error on these websites. These were made on purpose. I seen demands on high server that is worth than what happened on these ones and no such mistake ever took place simply because the resources itself never been used by more than one customer at one time.

I don't know what to call what is going on with these companies other than dirty IM, and I guarantee soon these companies will be sending you emails and mail regarding their offers.

I am feeling that these companies are using the consumer to steal their information, simply because many of these companies we would never go and sign up for and provide our information to if we didn't want that order badly. The problem is we are not really allowed to buy, we are just giving our information for free. I really hope FTC investigate what is going on behind the closed doors in these companies.

Well if people were stupid enough to start panic buying something they didn't want in the first place just because it was on offer - I guess they were bound to get abused somehow.

Andy, the offer itself is good, and I would say specially for IM since we need regular access to the internet, but it sounds as they running scam, just if I created a website buy IPAD for $99 and cancelled every order i got, by the end of the month I can get thousands of information for free.

What make it worth is not only the big companies, if you go to google shopping and other website for comparing prices, you will find companies and website that we never heard off, people still taking the risk because they believe it is real offer, after all HP said so.

Right. Best Buy, all by themselves, had one HP tablet for every 8 or 9 people in the US over the age of 18?

    Talk about conspiracy theories...

I agree with you Paul, this is over just IM.

Beside if you noticed something going online, Most companies are not making the price available at the same time as if they making sure yo u will sign up for as much websites as possible, at the time MacMall selling it, BN and Amazon and most of others are not yet providing the price. If everyone is providing that offer at the same time online, people wouldn't bother sign up for every single website.

I am a member at Sams Club, if you go and search on sams club website, it will show you the item as available, once you sign up and try to buy, they will tell you the item is out of stock, couldn't they just mentioned that in the first place !!!

I had this happen to me along with 6-7 co-workers via Barnes and Noble.

I don't think it was malicious on their part. They got hit with so many orders and phone calls in 2-3 days they changed their IVR to state that there were longer than normal wait times due to the HP Tablet sale.

I couldn't pass up the deal. $100 for a 10" HP Tablet. It runs web os - not android but there are groups working on getting android working on them. Barnes and Noble sent emails to everybody I know stating that their orders were cancelled because the item was no longer in stock. They couldn't track the sales fast enough

weblink29 it wasn't only BN and the question is it possible to happen to every website that had the offer ?

I made 4 orders on 4 different websites, the 4 went through at first and according to the website , order received or shipping soon

I made an order on Amazon, BN, and ewinscomputer, it took them from the three websites a manner of time before each company send its own email apologizing, for the order cancellation.

Another valid question, once HP made the announcement, why didn't every company bring the price down at once, walmart waited too long, according to other online posts, walmart was asked by HP to wait before changing the price.

I also checked staples that mentioned the tablet is for only $49 on their website at the time, my question is it really possible that staples will sell it for only $49 or since it is all propaganda back to school and just wanted to take a ride.

why you are not able to search on any of these website if there is more in stock locally, we all know such a feature available on Best Buy, Wal-Mart and many other companies, is there a single company that actually allow you to search if it still available in your local store ?! the question again is why ?

HP claim that they will no longer produce the tablet, and it is out of stock, but at the same time HP ask everyone to sign up for mailing list, as it will notify you once, it is available !!! what a conflict

I think you are digging for something that isn't there.

Why is it so hard to believe that a popular higher ticket item that went on sale for 80% off across the country would sell out so fast?

Also, you don't know how their computer systems are setup. They could have their entire inventory (all their store inventory and warehouse inventory) tied together and not distinguished for those making purchases online. Their computer may have had items available when people were placing orders because their was still store inventory. However, with the mad rush on the stores when their shipping system went to call for those items, they had been sold out.

If you think about it, why would retailers have their computer systems setup for a situation like this? It doesn't happen. Normally, even during the holiday season, when there is a mad rush on some hot item they may sell out of it, but they will be ordering more so they continue to take orders on backorder.

I think you are just being kind of silly digging for some massive conspiracy. The TouchPad flopped and HP decided to cut their losses. Plain and simple.

I totally missed out on this deal. I spent none of the weekend online, then at work monday I hear all this news about the tablet. I would have picked one up for $100 had I got the chance. Seem to be sold out everywhere. It's hard to tell if it's some kind of ploy. I don't blame best buy or any other company. I think best buy has even taken the product off their website now if I'm not mistaken.

I saw one guy or business sold 7000 of these on ebay on the 20th for $107.98 I think. How did he get 7000 and I couldn't get one. They are like 220 on ebay now.

They say more are coming soon though. probably just releasing the ones that all these companies have stock-piled.

Because that is probably just a generic message that shows up anytime they are out of something.

As others have said, there's absolutely NO WAY Best Buy had 27,000,000 tablets!

There are approx 1,000 Best Buy locations...that would come out to 27,000 tablets per location.
