Looking for a Good Shopping Cart Software for Offline Store

Hey, everyone!

I'm looking for a good shopping cart software that is reliable, stable, and is loaded with features such as monthly subscriptions services, email list integration/autoresponder, upsells, cross-sells, tell-a-friend scripts...

Something like this ECommerce Solution and Shopping Cart Software Features, but that price is way too high for what the store owner can afford at this time. I'm open to recommendations, free or paid, but as of now, there is a monthly budget concerning a paid service.

I know that I can do a Google search for "shopping carts", but I came here to the Warrior Forum to ask fellow Warriors for their recommendations on shopping carts that they've used and had a good experience with using.

So, any ideas?

Thanks!

SunShop is by far the best and easiest cart I've ever set up.

    Hi there,

    I have some ideas.

I have used PayPal shopping cart that is a nice simple one and everyone trusts that. RomanCart I used years ago not sure how it would suit others. I have also used WHMCS and PHPHostBot these two are mainly for hosting companys.

Hope the above helps and provides you with sme ideas.

If you don't want to spend much go with osCommerce, Zen Cart. Since last couple of months Magento is becoming a popular ecommerce software.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone!

I think that Zen Cart is already part of my web hosting package, so I'll look into that as well.

Never heard of SunShop, but I'll take a look at them as well.

I use osCommerce and it's a great cart, but don't think it could do all the features your looking for. Plus quite a bit of work to add all the mods.

When I had my bricks-and-mortar storefront w/ its accompanying website, I tried many carts (Mal's E-Commerce, OSCommerce, CubeCart, Avactis, CRELoaded) but by far the best of them all, for me, was ZenCart. I was able to skin it exactly how I wanted, integrate other things with it (blog, newsletter, etc.) and most of all it worked. It just plumb worked right. It was solid, reliable, didn't do anything weird, and it did what I needed it to.

And the price isn't bad, either. LOL

    Good luck!!

      Debbie,

Do you find ZenCart to be quick and easy to use or tedious?

I ask because to use this for the store that I have in mind, I also have to do frequent updates for new products that are available on a weekly basis.

I'm just curious as to how easily updated this software. Ya know what I'm saying? I would really need it to be quick and easy to use.

The basic install of zencart doesn't have the capability of doing a file upload but there are free plugins that will take care of that function for you.

When I created my first store Italian Charms, Charm Jewelry, Italian charm bracelets, Modular charms, cell phone charms (a long time ago) we entered all the products one by one. A convenient file loader hadn't been developed yet. We put a couple thousand products in there by hand. Very tedious job.
A couple years ago someone wrote a plugin to handle file uploads and downloads. I have no idea why this function isn't part of the zencart core as it's an essential function in my book.
Now I download a master file make the changes I want and then upload the changed file. There are over 5,000 items in that store - I needed an easy way to handle product.

I would be very easy for you to do a weekly update. It would probably take an hour or two depending on how many products there were.

When I was looking for a shopping cart - oscommerce didn't impress me at all. In fact I've had clients who wanted to dump it for zencart, which we did for them. Zencart has a far superior support forum and a huge group who create and develop plugins. Open source products need a large following to be successful. Zencart has left oscommerce in the dust on quality and speed of improvements and updates.

Magento is a resource pig. If you have a lot of products and a lot of visitors - its slows to crawl. Thats a sale killer in my opinion. I was looking at it to try on a new store but my tech and I discussed it and its not quite "mature" enough for what I like.
I think mass loading products is a problem too.
It does have nice features and a clean layout - but if people get fed up with the speed of the site then it won't work for my uses.

I've fallen in love with Joomla. I like 1.5+ and there are some briliant coders out there who are designing great templates, modules and plugins. I know you can use the Virtuemart component and its supposed to be great but I haven't tried it. Thats the next thing I'll be working on as I think Joomla is the future, I'd like to see how this shopping cart component works.

In the meantime Zencart will do what you need it to do. My tech is a Zencart pro so if you need a custom template now you know where to go.

        Hope that helps

David, never tried them but one of the sites that I've shopped on before uses them.

Seems like a good setup, but it does seem a bit pricey...
