Is the bum marketing method still profitable after the Google Panda Update?

I was thinking about doing bum marketing but don't want to waste my time if it does not work now.

It depends what you mean by "bum marketing". The two different meanings of the expression are discussed here.

If you mean "using article directories for their own traffic and/or their own backlinks", in preference to having your own website, my opinion is that it was pretty much stone dead even before the Panda update: that was just the last nail in an already-closed coffin-lid. But the article directories (as even their owners were/are saying openly) were really hammered by that, too.

When I first started internet marketing I went fast and furious into article marketing. I got some decent traffic from the articles to my website, but nothing to write home about.

I don't get near the traffic from the articles as I used to, but it's still a little bit. I did notice a decline.

I wouldn't have the base of my campaigns around this anymore, personally.

Try infobarrel, they allow 2 affiliate links, but make sure the article is useful though

Really? That's certainly a dramatic change of policy from them? Was this very recent?

The last time I looked (which was, admittedly, a few months ago), they allowed only their most well-known, most productive authors to have a couple of links in only about 20% of the articles they submitted there.

      Interesting ...

    Short answer...

    *yes!*.

I *still* get checks coming to me in the mail from the
work I did months ago with bum marketing - including
    during the Panda Update fiasco...

I didn't even know it was a problem until I read about
it here - I just kept making money - nothing changed.
If anything, income increased during this period...

when you're too busy getting things done, you don't
see nor experience this stuff people have been scaring
    you with.

    Trust me...

sometimes it's best to be *ignorant* to the news and
focus on work. Otherwise, you'll find yourself stuck...
here...asking "If Bum Marketing still works despite the
fears of google shutting you down".

Anyways, I've since stopped doing bum marketing but
I highly, HIGHLY recommend it to anyone - just don't
    do any of the obvious...

    ...like spinning articles...writing *crap*...and thinking
you'll get away with it. It didn't work BEFORE the up-
date (in terms of people buying), it won't work now...

    good luck
