Everytime I go to a supermarket or shop is motivation enough for me..I think..I do NOT want to have to do something like that again...

I also am motivated by the fact I enjoy what I am doing and I enjoy my life.

I spend all evening working for IM and then during the day I look after my son and read and garden and do whatever I want!!

I will never ley my boyfriend go back to work either.

So my personal tip would be to make sure you enjoy what you are doing and go into a supermarket and watch the cashiers.

My personal tip to stay motivated is setting goals and deadlines. I don't make unrealistic goals - even the little ones though still mean a lot. I've just started in the IM industry but have been working at home for almost 5yrs now and it seems to work for me.

Goals, and the steps that have to be completed to reach those goals, broken down to a daily activity that has to be completed.

I know if I do not complete the daily activity, I have just extended the date to reach my goal.

    oh - and - the money :-)

All of the answers are good. I home school my three daughters (10, 12 and 15) so I have a pretty set schedule for them. One thing I found that made a huge difference to begin with was . . . just getting enough sleep. Next, we made a point to keep everyone (including the girls) in the loop about the business and our goals. The next BIG issue was not to be in the business mode 24/7 because working from home gives one easy access to work. The "down" times allows for that "out-of-the-blue" idea to strike.

My motivation comes from my family team and our children learning the process to be successful.

        DB,

        Excellent points.

I was homeschooled in high school and it was a very positive experience for me. My parents were (and still are) self-employed, so our entire life was built around the home.

Now that I'm an adult, I'm realizing how important it is to manage my time and keep a schedule. This is a recent realization for me as I'm a huge night owl, but I'm having a harder time staying up so late and still being able to function the next day. (It's not been good.)

So I'm making a commitment to go to bed at a decent hour and get enough rest.

I agree too, that it's important to step out and do things completely outside of our businesses. It allows our brains to relax and as you said, it encourages and makes room for those out-of-the-blue ideas. Cross-pollination of ideas is what it is. It also allows me to mentally relax.

And in doing so, you actually become more productive and effective, not less.

FUNNY MAN! But seriously that is VERY TRUE from what I have heard...i don't have kids myself but i heard a story from ANTHONY ROBBINS saying that the #1 reason his income grew from $50,000 to $1,000,000 in JUST ONE YEAR was that he had his first child...

      so yah that does help...

for me...it helps to set goals to stay motivated temporarily...

but i think for the LONG DEEP RUN, you need to find a deeper inner reason within yourself on WHY you want to go into the internet marketing business....

if you have a strong enough WHY, you will have the motivation to take action in the HOW-TO's...so many people look for HOW-TO's but you first need your WHY...

so figure out your INNER WHY first and then taking action in the how-to's will come easy...

...whatever emotional personal reason you have, write it down and remind yourself every single time...

      Best,

      BJ Min

PS...By the way, Eric...that is a very interesting point you made...about getting out of the house and doing your work at starbucks, etc....that is very good...btw, do most USA starbucks have wireless internet access?

My technique is writing down weekly goals on a sheet of paper and checking them off, one by one, as I accomplish them.

For me, the satisfaction of seeing progress and getting things done is motivating - as I know each of these steps is along the path to accomplishing a bigger objective in my overall plan.

It's easy to get distracted - by email, Twitter, etc.

Staying focused and getting the top-priority things done - that 20% of stuff you do that generates 80% of the results - is key for me.

        Hi,

What's Your Secret to Staying Motivated Working at Home?
Regular breaks to enjoy the benefits of total freedom (and the spontaneous and random timing of these) coupled with the ability to be totally flexible about timing in order to meet up with less fortunate others (EG for sport) who have deadlines/jobs and own a diary/watch, plus total control of my environment to suit my mood and boost productivity.

Without money, I could lose those things = motivation.

Seriously, motivation has never been an issue for me, I've always wanted to be self-employed, and have been now for a couple of decades, so staying motivated is really not an issue.

I love what I do, I travel a lot for one of my businesses, so we 'vacation' all over the world, and I live in my dream home.

Hate to sound too cheerful here but I am up with the sun every day because I can't wait to get it started! Life's fun!

Love for what I do and the joy of not having to answer to a boss.

But on a more practcal basis I work with DEADLINES. I wait until
I just HAVE TO WRITE THAT SALES LETTER otherwise I'll miss the
deadline I promised the client--then my brain gets excited.

So the pressure of deadlines is my greatest motivation factor.

Working at home is a great thing, if you can maintain your focus and not get sidetracked, if you have an area that is away from the main flow of things like a den or spare bedroom helps. Make sure you set goals and make a list of things that must be done everyday to accomplish them. You set the hours, you control the income. Your Goals will become your new boss.

I'm guessing this question is aimed at me...

Yes, I take my laptop and I use their wireless signal, of course...

But it doesn't last 3 hours here at the downtown Long Beach Public Library...

If you use the Library's computers, it's 1 hour.

But if you use their signal and bring your own laptop, you can be here all day...like I am on most days...

I've been here since 11am and I'm still here working...and on the WF...

      Here's something else too...

I have all the books I need here...in case I need to read something right quick on web design, HTML, SEO, etc...

I will say that having a child was a HUGE turning point in my life...

When my wife and I first found out that we were having our daughter (now 1 1/2 years old), we didn't have much of anything, and I sincerely mean that. I can remember days of counting change on the floor to purchase a few bucks in groceries to get me through to the next "pay day". And the bills just never stopped coming. I even had to drop out of college, simply because I couldn't keep up with the incredibly high tuition.

I was just learning how to make money online. I got into incentive marketing, merely by mistake. While I'm not in it anymore, it helped me out in more ways than just the money I made from it. I remember my total investment was $1.87. That year, I grossed over 60K, and I was just 21 years old.

I believe my success was from my drive to succeed and knowing that I simple HAD to make things work. It's amazing how much you can accomplish when you have NO OPTIONS! I did this while working a crappy day job that wouldn't have paid enough money for me to keep up with rent had I did that alone.

I knew that I needed to step it up big time, because I wasn't going to let my daughter have to struggle.

Now, we just purchased our first home and things are great. Looking back and realizing how far I've come in just two years gives me even more motivation now to take it even further.

Just remember - Your mind is incredibly powerful. Anything is possible when you put your mind to it!

Working for yourself is one of the most rewarding things you can do. I guess it does depend on your personality, and whether you like taking orders from a Boss.

The best thing about working for yourself is the money goes into your pocket and not someone else's. This has to be a pretty big motivation to keep going.

Ditto to the desire to support the family. I am also motivated by gratitude. I am grateful for the freedom and the ability to do something I love. I know that I have been blessed to have access to so many superior sources of information and training on how to make a great living from home. I remind myself that I am a part of a relatively small slice of the population. If we are here on the WF, we are already way ahead of many others. It would seem wrong (nuts?) not to take advantage of that by taking action. -CP

I think that IM is addictive.

You either come into it and hate it, or love it.

There are other things you could find to support your family, but family is the reason I started. It has allowed me to be home with two of my girls as they have grown and started into school. I now have one left with me during the day.

I wouldn't trade this time for anything, especially a time clock.

Get an office as soon as you can so you can leave your house
    to get work done.

This is coming from someone who has a 2 1/2, a1 1/2 year
old, and another one coming in May!!!

Right now as we speak, 1 1/2 year old is screamiing bc he
wants someone to hold him when he SHOULD BE SLEEPING.

You try getting some work done when a kid is screaming
in the same room or home as you.

Get an office!!! Even if it's a small one or 2 roomer.

In most places outside of NY, you can probably get one for
like $500 - $1000 per month. Maybe less.

My mindset has a lot to do with it. I love what I do and don't consider it work at all.

When I first got started it was tough and frustrating. I turned it all around when I finally wrote my goals down, reviewed them every single day, and spent a couple times of week meditating on what it would be like when I hit my first goal, then my second...etc. The excitement that I generated doing this exercise turned me into an unstoppable juggernaut.

Also reading Cynthia Kersey's book, UNSTOPPABLE, was another great motivator and have read it time and time again (it's a bunch of short, true stories on how people overcame adversity and it always gives me the paradigm shift that I need).

Drive myself to the brink of destruction so that I feel the real pressure and come face to face with the inevitable. Then, write down the impending reality in all its gruesome detail. At that point, the only way out is to get busy and work my a@@ off. Whenever I think of slacking off, I only have to read the list of devastating outcomes, and my motivation is assured.

I have an Open Office doc called something like 'Ten For Tomorrow', with ten things I'm going to get done by the end of the day. I update it the night before, and it's in the start-up folder on my PC. This means that the machine takes a bit longer to crank up on a morning, and can sometimes be as annoying as all hell, but it's 'in yer face' enough to keep me focussed and moving forward, instead of losing hours in the WF before I remember what I'm supposed to be doing
