....to give, is to recieve.

I am experimenting with something at the moment to build my list.

100% unique way to build it as well.

The normal concept is: Traffic - squeeze page - optin for freebie - oto - etc.

I have changed that - slightly.

Has anyone tried, sending traffic, for them to download the freebie, without optin in to your email list?

I bet no one has, and if you provide quality content, and then mention your email subscription service in the freebie, people will subscribe.

Its early days for me at the moment, but is looking promising.

What do others think of this?

If the content you provide is of a high quality you'll get a good optin rate. The only issue is people generally produce sub-standard or re-hashed content so people have no interest in subscribing to get more..

A better way of doing this is offering them a bite sized chunk of the information without a optin and for them to get the second section of the report / content make them optin..

I've tried both ways and have had a massive increase in take up by giving a little bit without the optin and making them optin for the rest.

I am getting about a 3% conversion rate, but i need to ramp up on the traffic. I am not a traffic genius, however, i am seeing results. Been doing for 3 days now. Not in the make money niche either.

      Thanks Mark,

I am doing it that way, because i had tried it giving a full report, and you don't get much of a success doing it that way.

If you get them to bite, then they'll opt-in to get the rest of the report.

The trick is getting them to bite, which after a few attempts of getting that right, its paying off.

Make a great post, a really long one and high quality. Then plug your list at the end of it.

Someone made a post on this the other day talking about how he made a "top 10" style list and then social bookmarked it. It went viral. The viral part only happens with relatively mainstream niches though. It won't work for "top 10 tips on relieving your hemorrhoid pain", for example
Are you saying that someone wouldn't click the LIKE button on that niche so everyone of their facebook friends can see they are having hemorrhoid pain? :p

Yeah - you'll probably get subscriptions. But is a list full of freebie seekers worth your time and effort? I would think that it would be more worthwhile to build a list of buyers than freebie hunters.

It seems like a long-shot. I think the best balance is to give away a LITTLE content right on your page, to get them started, and THEN ask for their email to give away the real "meaty" content. That way they're hooked, and want more.

It's better than completely cold selling them, and probably better than asking for the email after they have nothing to gain by giving it.

Of course... split-testing is the only way to be sure. I'm sure we'd all be interested in seeing the results if you want to run this as an experiment and post it here

Yes, this method can work quite well.

You'll definitely want to run an A/B split test to make sure the Earnings Per Subscriber is the same with both pages.

I'm running one of these right now, and the instant free download is outpulling the normal squeeze page.

However, there are a couple of twists to this you may want to try as well.

    1. You can have both on the same page. Have a sample download as well as a normal squeeze.

    2. You can have 3 choices at the bottom of the page: 1. Instant sample download 2. Subscription form 3. Buy the product right away

    3. You can give away the full report, but have an opt-in form in the middle of the .pdf that allows them to signup for the "rest" of the material.

And I'm sure there are many more clever ways than those...but those can all work well.

    Just make sure to test!

    All the best,

I love to use #3. It works like a charm for one of my niches. I was so surprised at how many people would opt in that way and then buy my OTO.

I've got to try out #2 to see how well it works. I'd never thought of giving them three choices. Very clever.

This thread is gold Thanks to georgedinmore, Jack Duncan and DominiquePrentiss for your awesome contribution.

    Now here is mine

You do know those exit popups that marketers use on their salespage, right? The ones that ask them to wait, and then when people click on "Stay on this page", they are redirected to a squeeze page (optin for free gift).

So, how to apply this on a squeeze page?

Well, have the exit popup redirect them to ANOTHER squeeze page when they try to leave. The other page would be a different offer altogether.

The reasoning? They might not be interested in THIS offer, but may have been looking for a solution to the problem that you've mentioned on squeeze page #2!

It sounds very interesting and I am considering doing this, but I believe you would have to have some serious high quality content in order for people to opt-in. I know one marketer who did it, but he was already making tons of money. Update us warriors later on and let us know how it's working out for you, it sounds like a very interesting concept. I guess I just thought it may be a little risky though, you never want to miss out on getting as many leads as possible.

Its a good idea, as many have observed, it is promising. Important thing is that you should have a good quality content and maintain that quality and you would indeed get the numbers. Goodluck.
