Why all the meaningless thread responses??

I am sure I am not the only one, but has anyone noticed how many empty replies to threads there are? Take the War Room for example. Someone posts something new for the war room, and the next three pages of the thread are "looks great, I will try it out. Thanks!"

Isn't that what the THANKS button is for. It's a real pain to have to surf through the meaningls responses just so you can find a true review or a comment with some meat on it about the thread.

And I know there are some smarties out there that will reply to this thread with "very informative thanks" or "interesting". I am probably a culprit too.

Just thought I would throw this out there.

Sorry for that. Just had to get some laughs...

But seriously though, you have a point. While some
just don't like to "talk" too much, others simply do
it to pad up their post counts. After all, if they can't
send PMs or do other things because of low post
count, then they will find other ways to increase
    their post counts,

That's true Kingsley. It's really frustrating when you are a legitimate forum member but you are hamstrung in not being able to PM anyone so this reply will now push me to the 50 mark

Hahaha, that's one of the most HONEST replies I
have ever seen in this forum,

Thankfully your post will not get deleted because
it's valuable and contributes to the discussion...
and it's more than one line,

Yes, but this isn't a mastermind group this is also a social forum. If all you do is press the thanks button then you have no idea who the person is who thanked you.

It just feels friendlier to say thanks in a box like this in addition to clicking your button.

It really is frustrating to read a thread with 'junk posts' as I call them.

Perhaps part of the problem is that members don't take time to report these posts. I don't think anyone really likes to do that. And it does take time to click on the member's name to check the other posts they have made to determine if this is a one-time situation or not.

However, if the poster has a pattern of posting meaningless, one-line replies to threads and is just allowed to go on his or her merry way, we all lose out in the long run.

I'm trying so hard to push my post count to 50 so that I can send PMs. So thank you for starting this thread.

I think what it really is - there's a general imbalance. The number of people who are verbose and feel elaboration is required if and when they reply is FAR LESS than the number who just want to be involved in the discussion. In my experience with forums, most people kind of just want to be trivially chatty, provide banter or just have a quick say on things.

The one who's ready to type out a few hundred relevant words..they're usually off doing better things, helping a newbie or making their own thread. Despite showing who thanks who, I guess people just want to make sure that their thankyous aren't generic and feel inclined to add the most minute amount of detail to it..and if anything, some 'personal' aspect of it when they say 'This is just what I needed to read' or something.

Although I can totally see the post-padding element. I'm new here, and most of what I feel I should reply to are threads like this one, but not just to say 'I KNOW RIGHT?'.

When you hit the 'thanks' button, your post count doesn't go up and your sig file doesn't get shown.

And, of course, if you just hit the 'thanks' button instead of posting a one-liner in threads like this, no one can tell what a smartass you are...

How to translate a War Room response to a free WSO:

    TY = Thanks for nothing.
Looks good, will download soon = ****ty title. Not worth my three minutes.
    Good Read = Good Riddance
Informative eBook, Thanks = Please stop creating these useless diatribes
Just what I was looking for = Please go back to selling used cars
Download button doesn't work= You have no business creating WSO's and teaching people how to make money online/offline/anywhere in the world so please quit while you are only a nose hair ahead.

I dunno about in the WR, but in the open forums it's MOSTLY just spammers. Here is the trick, if you don't know it: 1) drop a ton of pointless one-line posts 2) NOW drop your sig in and hey presto, it appears in all the posts you have done, and you (supposedly) get lots of backlinks.

Presumably someone somewhere is teaching newbies this amazing SEO trick and there is an endless supply of attempts to do this.

When you see an inane one-liner:

    1) Check the rest of the poster's 17 posts (they usually have a low post count) using "Find more posts by this user".
    2) If they are all along these lines, and often posted minutes apart, in quick succession HIT THE REPORT BUTTON and they will quickly be gone.

Don't feel bad about it, the mods know very well what those people are up to and that will be one less bit of noise on the forum.
