I need superior guidance!

Im 19, and have been trying my hand at internet marketing for the past year and a half with minimal success, I have made a total $300 in commissions / sales but I have yet to realize how to be successful. As I write this, I feel this gnawing thought of "I should be doing something, working on something, but what" and I dont know how to harness that. I have 10 websites that are mini retail sites that target a couple products but I cant rank them because I have no money to buy back links and I have no real knowledge of proper free backlinking methods. Im a student looking for a job so I can put that money back into my websites. Im looking for help, Ive talked with other great warriors but they are too busy to deal with noobies for too long. Im just looking for some guidance and maybe face me in the right direction. Sorry if this thread was confusing I just need some good ol motivation right now.

Do you have a list? If so, I recommend conducting a survey and finding out what they want. It won't cost you anything if you use Zoomerang.

Once you know what they want, create the product in a minimal amount of time. It's better to get it done than to make it perfect.

If it sells, you can always go back and make it better.

Even before doing the survey, take a look at the markets you're targeting. Perhaps they don't have money to spend.

You need a hungry market that also has money to spend. For example, the golf niche is great because it's large, golfers are obsessed, and they have money.

I don't do anything in that niche, but it has the characteristics of a good one.

"I have 10 websites that are mini retail sites that target a couple products..."

I think that's one of your problems.

You're starting out without focus. Experienced marketers could handle 10 sites and much more. However, when starting out trying to earn your first $1000. mth, it's best to concentrate on ONE website and ONE product. Build ONE list, then watch that basket of eggs until you feel comfortable in creating another.

Go to aweber and pay the $19. per month for a great autoresponder. Get a great squeeze page and offer something of supreme value. Next, go over to Facebook, Twitter, forums in your niche, and also find blogs in your niche. Take the time and make thoughtful contributions.

In no time you'll build a list. "The money is in the list."

I totally understand that I have probably bit off a bit more then I can chew, but I am going at it one at a time, not all at once, I just made the sites, and Im currently working on backlinking one of them until It starts making money and then I can reinvest in the next one.

Yeah, I agree completely. Choose 1 thing and become an expert at that. Too often people dabble in multiple things and never get good enough at any of them to see any real success.

I would personally push you in the direction of ecommerce. There's still lots of money to be made in ecommerce and it costs nearly nothing to launch a store. Maybe choose your highest potential store and just maximize that one while the others just sit on the backburner for now.

Re: backlinks - Truth be told, most "gurus" like to over-complicate SEO & getting ranked in Google because they want you to pay them to explain it to you. For an ecommerce store, as long as you choose your keyword phrase(s) wisely building good content on your site is 2/3 of the work. A handful of good backlinks and you're page 1. Don't let people convince you that it takes thousands and thousands of backlinks. For uncompetitive micro niche keyword phrases, that just not the case!

I welcome you to check out our ecommerce community. It's free to join and it's LOADED with valuable info. I've been making well into 6-figures a year for over 6 years in ecommerce. So that's why I really steer people that are serious towards it!

Most likely you need some more (or better) content. And some good interlinking within your own website. Write a good article and post it on your website, and then get some good external backlinks directly to that!

From my experience, a highly related backlink from an authority site within your market is going to do you a lot more good than a high PR backlink.

Can you get the manufacturer of the products your sell to list you as a authorized retailer on their website? In my experience this is always a HUGELY valuable backlink to get!

I suggest you learn SEO. It's not hard, but super boring. Becareful in buying SEO service because the service provider may use bluefart method and some bluefart methods can damage your rank.
