Email Lists, Affiliate offers and etc

Just curious... what do you think?

I buy something from you, and from that point forward you have the 'right' to bombard me with every WSO and latest greatest thing to hit the market?

Keep in mind, I'm not talking about a list where I agreed to be 'updated' when new stuff was launched... I'm specifically talking about people I purchased from.

I even think it's even okay to send me offers of new products you develop, but not affiliate offers.

You didn't ask.

I'm thinking I just need to start hitting the 'spam' button when I receive these emails, as I did not grant permission - nor was I asked if it would be okay to receive additional offers.

I know... I could unsubscribe, but that's not the solution. If I purchased software, a plugin etc - anything that's updated, I need to stay on the list for updates.

Just curious what others think.

It's not a life or death thing... just a pet peeve.

A marketer complaining about people marketing to him. Baffling.

So from your reply, I assume you think it's okay if you buy something from me and I bombard you with multiple offers a week of affiliate offers?

      Now I'm the one 'baffled'.

I agree BloggingPro - if it was the 'one off' exception, but it's the norm.

It's not something that's out of hand by any means, just wanting to see what others think.

Did not think it would 'baffle' anyone, just looking for real opinions one way or the other.

        Thanks,

        Andrew

But unsubscribing IS the solution. You no longer receive emails from said marketer and you no longer provide them with money if you purchase through their affiliate links. Seems to me the best and only option here would be to hit the unsubscribe button.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I don't think that it's okay. I mean if they want to sell you a product which they've personally produced, then I think that's fine. But to bombared someone with affiliate offers, now that's a bit wack. If you have bought some of there products then you must like what they're making, so staying in the loop can be great. But affiliate offers is crossing the line in my books. Affiliate marketing isn't for emails, should be done through ppc etc.

If I've opted in for product updates/news but receive affiliate offers, I just reply to them telling them that I opted in for product updates/news and don't wish to receive affiliate offers and asking them please to ensure that's what happens.

Typically they unsubscribe me, which as you rightly say isn't the correct answer.

The correct answer is for them to send what they said they'd send.

But some people aren't willing (or aren't able?) to do that, and they won't normally be the ones with whom I do future business or whose products I recommend to others without a caveat.

No, I agree with this, too. But if people have been dishonest with me (telling me one thing and doing another), typically I won't trust them in future.
