Reverse Engineering Question - Trying to find out who owns a domain

Hello,

I'm trying to reverse engineer a particular site, and more specifically find out who is behind it. Everything that I've tried such as a whois, Googling the 800 number, calling the 800 number (which leads to a company they are selling their leads to) leads me to a dead end.

I'm trying to find out who is behind the site in order to see if we can get them to sell there leads to us because in this vertical very few companies are actually able to produce leads cost effectively so they are difficult to find.

I run into this type of problem often when the privacy policy, about us, contact us, and who is leads me nowhere.

Is there any other ways of being able to track down the owner of a domain that any of you might know about?

One possible method is to use archive.org, AKA "The Wayback Machine". I have heard of people using this technique to find contact information for mystery domains, the idea being that older iterations of the site might have had more contact information or a company name.

It's a long shot admittedly, but probably the next step is hiring a private investigator!

      Good luck

Usually when they have whois, there's a whois email that you can use that will get to the site owner. Doesn't mean that they will respond to it though.

Have you tried BBB.org? You can search for online or offline businesses. If they are listed, you will find their addresses and phone numbers. You can also read customer complaints about the businesses.

    1) Start at home page. Click on US or Canada Site.
    2) Next page, click on "Check Out a Business or Charity" button.
    3) In "Search For" field, type in the company name. Leave "In" box blank.

If the business is legally licensed, you should see one or more listing. They may have multiple addresses listed. Start browsing the list. I hope that helps.

its a long shot, but you could try alexa. i dont have links, but you can find out who the host is, and who the dns is set to. that might give you a lead. use google to find those tools

meaning the the dns may be set to resolve to another site they own and you may find more information there.
