My first $1,000 Amazon sale...

I had my first $1,000 sale on Amazon yesterday. It wasn't a single $1,000 item. It was 3 items totalling $1,125 purchased from the same user. But it was my best single sale so far and it felt good.

I've been promoting high end items as well as lower priced items. I've sold a few $300 items. With this sale my highest priced item sold so far was $600.

I just started promoting Amazon products seriously a few months ago. I have new websites with very little traffic. What traffic I get is very targeted though.

Oh well. I just felt like posting about this for those that are just getting involved with Amazon.

    How do you know?
Was it just one clickthrough to amazon and this resulted in 3 items sold?
More interesting, how much did you earn?

I've never been a affiliate for Amazon, may I ask how much commission did you make of your $1000+ sale?

They were 3 products sold together: one from my product link and 2 product were catagorized as "All Other Items Ordered". IE: They clicked my link and bought the main item for $600 and then added a $480 item and a $45 item.

My commission rate is 6% this month. Amazon increases your commission rate the more items you sell. I missed the 6.5% commission by a few items.

So, I should make about $66 from that sale. IE: 6% of $1100

Electronics items pay 4% commission I believe but these were not electronics.

Always very cool when that happens! My highest Amazon sale was around $1400. It takes a lot less traffic to make a big sale than that many little sales.

Well done. My biggest sale was for a 3D HDTV for $700 although it was capped at 4%.

Is anyone else experiencing very low conversion rates recently? I had over 100 clicks today, but only 1 sale so the conversion rate was below 1%. Could this be due to the summer season?

Nice job, it is pretty motivating isn't it.

I think the highest priced item I've sold through amazon was right around $599.

Keep on scaling up your sites and you should do well by the holiday season.

For the month, my stats are under 1% conversions!!!
I can blame it on summer I guess....

It fluctuates from day to day. Don't sweat it too much. If it starts happening everyday then I'd get concerned.

great work ... keep up the work..

i might ask what are the steps (in brief) u used to build the site,.. could u tell the steps u took until u register the domain.... that is.. steps in ur keyword research..

it would be helpful to know if ur keyword is a product name (since u told the traffic is little and highly targeted) , what is ur domain like - a general kw domain or a model/brand name domain. ?

    appreciate ur thoughts and advice....

    thank u very much

I think Amazon selling may well be something I get involved with after my next few projects... I was always put off by the low commissions, but if you can sell a high ticket item like that... well hey it's hard to argue

Guess I just always looked at it the wrong way :p

Congratulations, goes to show with consistent effort and focus Amazon can provide a really great income and is one of the best ways for a beginner to make money online very quickly all things considered.

If you can sell that amount all you have to do is just keep promoting your sites and ramping it up.

Are your sites Mini Sniper one product sites or is it an Authority style site.

Either way great job keep it up

The other day I had someone order a $900 piece of exercise equipment off one of my niche sites. I don't currently have any websites even remotely related to exercise equipment (though the thought crossed my mind after I saw that sale!). So that was a nice surprise to see on my report - especially at 7% commission.

I promote some products and websites in broad markets like "Golf Equipment". I then add categories for all of the various golf equipment. IE: Golf Clubs, Golf Balls, Golf Carts, etc. I will add items for any product that ties into the broad market.

I also create some website with very specific markets. IE: Noise Cancelling Headphones, etc.

I am testing every market where the keyword research looks good.

For this sale, the items purchased were an exact match to my domain name and targeted keywords. The main item was for a small niche inside the fitness product niche.

    Congratulations!

I have always wondered about the conversions of the Amazon products.

There are some who say they convert great because of the Amazon trust factor while there are some like Andrew Hansen I believe said that the conversions sucks for Amazon products.

While I understand it depends on a number of factors like keyword research, site layout etc, I wonder what are some affiliate marketers doing differently to get those higher conversions.

No, it doesn't provide maximum commission per sale. In fact, Amazon's pay out is quite low compared to some of the other affiliate networks.

Sure, this is true for some products. But some others (household appliances for example) it's better than most other programs I've seen. Plus everybody knows and trusts the Amazon brand, so conversions tend to be a little higher. All in all, I'd say Amazon is definitely one of the best affiliate programs out there even if their commissions aren't always the highest.

I build my own websites to promote the particular amazon product.

For example if I want to promote noise cancelling headphones I start by doing some keyword research to determine the best keyword phrases. In this example "noise cancelling headphones" is a great keyword phrase to target so I would try to get it in the domain name itself. IE: www.noisecancellingheadphonesonline.com

    Congratulations WebLink.

What I've found that works, in terms of landing higher sales like these, is to do a nice blend of low to mid level items but then also make a point that people should buy quality products.

People generally want to pick up items that are the cheapest price but if you make it known about the quality than some of the people going through your link will mull over the higher end items because they are looking for something that is going to last so it completes the sale.

CONGRATULATIONs - that is quite an achievement

I started out with physical good's - then when I made my first information product sale and got $37 for one sale - I didn't look back.

Physical Goods - 10-15% commission at most.
    Electronic Goods - 50% average

The rest goes to say which one was worth my time

I still have my Amazon sites up - they send me checks in the mail still - I'm always happy to see those - HaHa!

The good thing about Amazon is that most people have heard of it and it is trusted. This is important for marketing physical products, much more so than info products.

That being said, Amazon's conversion rate (I saw someone mention this above) is very low. This is because their layout is kind of messy and disorganized...I've made some money from promoting Amazon products, but you can certainly get a higher ROI somewhere else.

Plus, there are a ton of affiliates promoting Amazon products and forgetting to "nofollow" their links pointing to Amazon. haha...
