Have any of you made good money with online surveys? I never did and I don't really trust it because it takes quite long to even get a survey if you don't meet a requirement. So did you make good money?

I took a survey way back when and ending up having an iPod sent to me in the mail. That's been my only experience with surveys.

I wouldn't seek to do it full time or anything, even if it had potential to provide a full-time income - those things can be pure torture! .

I tried it once. I spent a lot of wasted time in front of my computer and got nothing out of it. They want way too much information and to be honest .. I really didn't trust it.

    • I've tried a lot of different ways to make money, online and offline. I just like trying new things. Mystery shopping, merchandising, product tester, focus groups, taking surveys...

I'm convinced that survey companies have it rigged so you have to invest 15 minutes worth of answers before you find out you don't "qualify". It's a sleazy business.

I agree too, I had too tried many things like that but at end I get the same type of response that either you do not qualify for the survey or you had just earn 10 C -- Now remembering those make me .

I never found a survey that paid any real money. Mostly a scam business. Some here have said there's a few legit ones around, but you won't make much money in any case.

      I agree and disagree.

My "online money making" fever started with paid surveys 6-7 years ago. And while there are many scams out there, there are also lots of legit survey sites. These are sites that are part of big market research companies who do this both online as paid surveys and offline as focus groups. It's a huge industry and obviously that's why there are a lot of scams in it as well.

About making money, I can tell you this, you will certainly not be able to make a living doing this. However, I personally know a few people who do make what for many of us these days would be considered making a living (around $1200 or so a month). But, they spend a lot of time taking surveys for whole bunch of different survey sites and they also participate in their local focus groups.

As an average survey taker, I would say, you could make a few hundred dollars a month (cash and gift certificate, as some survey companies only pay you in forms of gift cards) if you take 2-3 surveys a day averaging you an hour a day or so.

All that said, most people who unfortunately are misled by ads and websites telling them you can make thousands of dollars easily with online surveys, go into it and soon realize its not that easy. I mean, after all it takes time to complete surveys. yeah, some of time are really fun and enjoyably, especially the ones about movies or new products, but mostly they are boring.

By the way, the rule of thumb when it comes to paid surveys scams is that if a survey site asks you for money in order to register you, that's just a scam. All survey sites are free to join. I mean all legitimate paid surveys sites. Those scam sites basically charge you a fee to give you a list of legit paid surveys sites which since I have been involved with them for years, I have pretty much figured them out and have listed them in my own blog. See it here at 40+ legitimate paid surveys

      In short:

There are lost of survey scams.
But there are also many legit survey companies that do pay.
You will not get rich doing paid surveys.
All legit paid survey sites are 100% free to join.

By the way, if you can get referrals, that's another good way to make more money with these sites, since most of them do have referral programs.

I once made about $45 with a survey site (and I can't even remember which one it was.) But the only reason I got that much was that I qualified for a HUGE 3-part skincare survey that actually paid "well."

It still broke down to be something like $5 an hour or something stupid like that, and it took me a couple months to make that $45.

Some people claim it is good for "supplement income," but I say that's baloney. You could make way more than that blogging, selling affiliate products, getting a temp job, or hunting for treasures at yard sales and selling them on eBay!

I say avoid surveys because they ask for too much info, and many of them are now "prize" based - which is just scammy to me.

I tried it out before and made an awfully low amount of money. The way they pull you in is that they give you 5 dollars for signing up and then they give you like only 2 or 3 surveys which are worth 25 cents a piece and the rest are about 10 cents. It's ridiculous because for most of the surveys you have to qualify in order to receive higher payouts like a dollar or 50 cents.

I used to make anywhere from $50-$200 per month with surveys, plus got a lot of free products to test. It's not huge income, no, and it's not a business but if you choose the best companies, it's an easy way to get some capital for starting your real business. Or in my case, it paid for the extras like going out to eat or a bill every month when I was working full-time.

From what I can tell, it's only worth while if you live in the US. Plus, most people give up too soon. Most of the companies will not send you high paying surveys at first. They wait to see if you're reliable and put some thought into it before considering you for a good paying survey.

My highest survey was $150 and that was for three 30-minute sessions.

            no, it works like this.

lets say i create a membership site and i collect all the different sites where you can do survey which are link to companies. then i charge you to use my site, with the list there. so you pay me to use my info i collected.

but when u do the survey the company behind the survey supposedly should pay you.

but ... lol u know how the story goes. hahaha
u hardly get paid, and its not worth ur time even if u get paid.

after doing 15mins of survey u get 0.10 or 0.50? i rather u work at macdonalds.

as low as $5 to $7.50 /hour may sound. its much higher that way.

            agree anyone?

Panda Research is a ripoff and isn't really a paid survey company. What they do is have you fill out stuff for CPA offers. They may pay but it's not really paid surveys. And there are an awful lot of complaints out there from people who never did get paid or only get part of their earnings.

you should it's a MUST have a seperate email for your surveys. I have workers fill out surveys for me. I make a total of $100 per day profit after paying out workers.

The more sites you sign up to the better. The more you take surveys the mare they will let you participate in. I was in a focus group (online session) for 3 hours and got $125 an hour. It's really wroth it once you get the hang of it.

It's not my mail source of income but definitly helps me fuel a lot of other experiments!

Honestly, I think surveys are a joke, but I don't know of anyone personally who made any real money. Some discriminate based on your initial set of responses, they ask a few test questions to make sure you're the target demographic, and if you aren't, then you're disqualified. Even if you make it, the pay rate is lower than child labor so I wouldn't take it seriously.

This is a matter of perspective. I have made good money from surveys. there are 4 key things you have to do though in order to make the money that these companies advertise.

    1. Reseach free cash paid surveys on google. This might take you a little time, but it is worth it in the end.

    2. Get yourself a form filler program, this will save you hours of rehashing the same info and questions over and over again. After about 30 surveys, a standard 30 min survey will take 2 to 3 min to complete.

    3. Do every little survey that is sent to you no matter how small it is as soon as you get it. Look outside the box, these companies are looking for reliable people for market research, they are weeding you out to see how lazy you are.

    4. Stick with it for a month, don't give up, as soon as they deem you reliable you will get the better offers and bigger money.

I don't do surveys anymore because I have moved on to bigger and better things, but what I will say, is that at the time, they provided me money when I needed it. If you don't have patience, they will have you weeded out in no time. My 2 cents.

ya it works, but even if it works its not worth ur time like what some people are saying.
It is worrth your time if you are new to the web, not everyone comes with a phd when trying to make money on the web for the first time. Really, this is about new and experience people trying to make money online.

unless ur time is worth 0.10 per 15 mins. which is 0.40 per hour?
Is that the worth you put into it? I think you got weeded out right away and they sent you McDonnalds surveys.

Once the big ball was rolling, I was making 135 dollars for 4 to 5 surveys a day that took me 20 to 30 min total max. to do plus focus groups that made 150 -300 dollars per week. My income was 800 to 1200 dollars a week.

I don't expect anyone to understand this, but I was laid off from a very "known" company along with 3000 other fellow workers. I had morgage, bills and kids to feed. This worked for me and it got me on my feet again.
Some of that money went into building my existance online, where I was able to build into bigger and better things.

Is it for experience guru's here? no way!

Is it for new people wanting get the money rolling? Yes

The paid ones are scams, and the free ones are a waste of time and worth almost no money. I can write 3 articles in the time it usually takes to fill out 1 survey, and not only make more money, but have more fun.

Mostly been a scam for me. Not been paid when I first started years ago. So I don't recommend them to new marketers unless there are new reputable survery sites.

I did them a little while ago, spent 10 minutes filling out a survey before finding out i had to choose two different paid offers to continue. Waste of time to be honest, would be interested to hear if anyone's actually making any money out of it

Folks who claim you can make $200 a day doing surveys are liars. You would be better off selling $7 ebooks than trying to use surveys to make money.

I got one survey that paid me twice and a really hilarious story from a live survey at a real boardroom setting.

What is so funny about the boardroom case? I went down there and waited with other participants to do this live survey for 30 dollars abouts. Finally the survey was going to start. EVERY OTHER participant went to the boardroom while I got told to stay back. Confounded, I wondered "Did I do something wrong?"

No you won't be involved in the survey, they said. They just handed me the cash for rearing my head up in the waiting room without answering anything. Paid HUGE just to wait for 1/2 hour. I just fainted away dead, so to speak.

I dropped out of surveys because they hadn't made me much.

Read all of my other posts. You will find out I went on to Freelancing on oDesk with FORGOTTEN and recovered skills.

On the flip side, I remember the last time I filled out a survey was on a redirect strategy...5 minutes into it, I'm like wait I'm here to redeem my code for the product I just purchased. What am I doing filling out a survey to get all these gadgets and magazines!!!

I tried it in the beginning, major waste of time, pretty much daily surveys offered, each one would take about 5 minutes pre-qualifying questions and not one did I qualify. I even got stubborn and spent 3 more weeks trying to qualify and make a lousy buck, thats it a buck, just to say I got paid.

    Nope not one.

    Don't waste your time IMO

It was a few years ago (3?), but I spent some time looking into this because I had so many people asking me about it (I used to be the Entrepreneurs Guide for About.com). Once I narrowed it down to the ones that actually paid, consistently, rather than just giving you a chance at winning a prize, here's the conclusion I came to:

    1. You CAN make money at it, consistently, but probably not much more than about $10/hour. For most people on this forum, that's chump change -- not worth it. For a stay-at-home mom, with no marketing skills, who has a lot of interruptions, that might actually be worthwhile.

    2. Many of them have a fairly high payout level, e.g., $100. So until you do that many surveys, you can't get your money. And you can't get it again until you hit the next $100, and so on. In other words, it's a lousy way to generate some quick cash.

    3. The best way to make money on surveys is by referring other people to make money by taking surveys. If you're OK with that ethically, go for it. Just please, fully inform people. If you've done that, and they still want to try it, I say, why not go ahead and get the referral fee?

gosh, that was my past time. I happened to be from third country and it's really hard to find survey that accept my country, most of them only accept USA, Australia, UK, Canada, Western Europe. I've had a paid survey several times, but they need you to fill like 100-200 surveys so you'll get your first $10 or $15 payout. Waste of time for peanuts! You better set up a gig on Fiverr.

    Everybody's wrong.

No, seriously, if you think doing online surveys for money isn't legit, you're wrong, and if you think you're likely to make a full-time living from doing online surveys, you're also wrong. It's that rarely-addressed middle ground that makes all the difference.

There are lots of good survey sites, but you will typically make between $2 and $5 per survey. If some site is telling you you can make $75 from doing a survey, they're BSing you. That's almost certainly an affiliate offer of some kind. If you know where to look, though, and especially if you're in that magical 18-34 demographic, there are many opportunities available to make some extra cash, even without referrals. I like Opinion Outpost the best, as it has a payout threshold as low as $5, no delay in geting paid, and a pretty steady flow of surveys to do.

It's not the kind of thing likely to make you a living--and even if it could, I wouldn't advise it at those rates. But every day somebody starts a thread about how they can start doing IM with no money, claiming they can't afford the relatively small expenses required to take advantage of the information available here. If they made a mere $1/day, that $30/month could easily pay for hosting, 1 domain name, autoresponder, and more with a little change to spare and no need to tap into everyday living money to start building a business. I think there's some value in that.

Some years back when paid surveys were talked about a lot, I checked into it thinking that I could supplement my income, even in a little way. What I found was that many that did seem to offer better pay or offer something that would really benefit the person taking the survey had a major catch! Many were built upon the concept of signing up for free offers that required your credit card information to receive payout. It was all about juggling the offers and remembering to cancel before a 30 day period, so your credit card wouldn't be charged, say $29.95. What a joke!

I had a friend who started making 200+/week only with surveys.

He is using multiple sites, and of course some of them turn out to be a scam.

    Be careful!

    Cheers,
