Default Hi! New here and looking for start up information

Hi everyone!

I was told to come here by quite a few people after I had decided to take my writing online. I've been "lurking" for a few days and am amazed at all the great info I am getting.

Since this is my first post, I decided to come right out with it and ask: What is the best way to get started in one of these "info product" things?

I ask this because I have been reading your posts on blogging, adsense, adwords, seo and all that stuff. I really think that an info product is the best way to go.

The problem is, which direction do I take? I'm on about 50 different lists and every one of them claims to be the "lastest and greatest". (As I'm sure you all noticed) Since I am totally new to this I figured I'd ask all of you.

I'm just looking for some help with what the first step should be.

Thanks for the help on this one and I look forward to hearing from you all soon!

Welcome to the forum Linda - great to see you finally making your introduction.

The information product market is saturated if you are going to sell "how to make money products" but people are still selling them..

What I would focus on is targeting a specific niche - For example, if your passion is playing the guitar you can create a product of 15-20 pages on guitar, do a video course or write it yourself. You can then submit it to clickbank and offer affiliates commission for your product.

It really depends what you want to focus on but niche marketing is the best - focus on something that has less competition and in the long-term will make you money.

Creating info-products can be really great and quite profitable.

Keep in mind, too, that with a digital medium, you can add other things besides written reports to your information package. For instance, I sell a self-help product that combines one long Ebook and one short Ebook plus an audio file of an interview I did on the subject. If you combine several items together like this you can justify charging a higher price, which in turns makes it easier to attract affiliates who will help promote your product.

If you sell your product through Clickbank they have a huge network of affiliates who actively search for products to promote, but many of them won't bother to promote something that doesn't earn them at least $20 commission. So if you can design a product that is priced at least $40 or so, you can benefit from selling individual copies yourself on your own site (for $40) and also have the leverage of other affiliates pushing for sales, too (and you'd earn $20 for those sales if you decide to offer affiliates a 50% commission.)

There is also money to be made promoting much cheaper, shorter products in the $7- $20 price range. But for those you probably won't want to bother using affiliates to help you with sales. In that case, having your own free newsletter can be essential because you will need to be selling in volume, and if you get several hundred subscribers you can promote to them.

One excellent guide that is really a must have for information marketers was written by a fellow Warrior named Alexis Dawes. It's called Desperate Buyers Only, and it's all about how to target really motivated (sometimes desperate!) buyers who will be eager to buy your stuff. She goes into a lot of detail about finding good markets to target and provides loads of other super info. She has a six figure a year income from selling her ebooks! (They're very cleverly done and usually high in price.) So she knows what she's talking about.

The problem many beginning info-writers face is that they want to write about their passions or the subjects they love, but too often those subjects might not be profitable. So it's important to learn how to do market research. Alexis' book is one great resource for that, plus check out another Warrior's excellent guide called Building an Ebook Empire - it's by Tiffany Dow, one of our cherished contributors here!

Best of luck to you!

Jennifer

One thing that I would suggest is to not to go for " Google Adsense " program, it works great but when you have a website with tons of traffic coming in and you have high paying ads on.

All that you'll learn over time. As Imran pointed out Click Bank would be the easiest and 100 % ligit way of making money online for any newbie.

Research and go with what you are passionate about, if you can't write youself hire someone and they'll do the hard work for you.

Once you have a good product complied then let others do the hard work again of bringing the customers with clickbank's affiliatte program.

Hope this will help you start off .... And who ever told you to come to warrior forum was a good friend indeeed.

This is the absolute heaven for newbies to learn new stuff and ask all the questions and clear all of their confussions.

Good luck

I do get a bit confused when dealing with all of this. I'm new to the whole internet marketing stuff, so now if I have questions, I know where to go! This is a fantastic site and I'm begining to see why my friends have recommended it for me.

Hi Linda,

You're asking one of the frequently asked questions: What is the very first step in starting an online business?

I wrote a guest article on Alice Seba's blog that may be able help you answer that question...

How To Choose The Right Internet Business For Maximum Profits | Internet Marketing Sweetie

The article will reduce all the confusion and information overload that you (and most newbies) are experiencing.

Good luck!

Hi Linda,

I think the best way is to do what you enjoy.

It could be a hobby, your area of expertise and so on.

The IM journey is for the long term and only what you know and enjoy doing and is passionate about can sustain your flame.

Share with us more about your interests and we can move on from there.

Do come back from this thread you started so that the other Senior Warriors can guide you. They are really helpful.

Good luck!

John

Well right now, I'm kind of looking at two things:

Weight loss and Autism

My recent weight loss has led me to do this. It took me about 2 years to get rid of 150lbs and still going strong. It was mostly my diet and I would like to help others who are out there searching the net for answers to their weight loss issues.

The Autism one really hit me hard this last week. My son was diagnosed with AS. Which is on the Autism Spectrum and I've been doing a lot of research on it and have some really great info to share with parents with kids who have Autism. This one is very near to my heart and I know that there is kind of an open market with both.
I just need to know where to start! LOL

Not only do you have the makings of 2 great markets there, but you also have 2 inspiring stories to use in either.

I wonder if you could integrate them. Like "weight loss for parents of autistic children". I would imagine that as much time, energy, and love as it takes to care for autistic children, it would be rather easy to put your own health on the back burner. Might be a market there. Worth some research time.

Promoting one that is already PROVEN! That's the best way to get started...

You want an easy way to make money? - go to clickbank - look at the TOP products and promote one of those. There ya go; you are immediately in a position to make money. No need to spend months creating your own product...

Can you accept that you don't need to work hard to make a lot of money?

Pick a niche where people are VERY hungry for something (i.e money, love, sex...etc)

You said weight loss? (congrats by the way) That's perfect!

Now... this is important: if you're brand spankin new...be careful spending a lot of money on paid marketing (i.e PPC) in competitive niches. Start with FREE traffic. For example, this could be article marketing but then again there are PLENTY of better ways to drive free traffic

P.S. Creating your own products is great, but just trust me when I tell you that it will be 10x easier to do once you're already making money...for a number of reasons...

Linda,

First off - welcome this is a great community to learn from. I believe the best model is to write short reports (7-15 pages) at a low price point (under $10). These reports should be high quality and solve a problem the niche is experiencing. This approach is a great way to build a quality list. Treat your list well and continue to add value with quality articles. Your subscribers will tell you what their problems are, and if you survey them, they will guide you on what back end products to produce and what medium (i.e. ebook, audio, video, etc.) they want it delivered in.

Best of luck,
Christopher

Linda,

You need to do your research to find out if there is a market for your idea. Weight loss is a hot market and because of it millions are selling weight loss books, exercise books and videos, magic pills, and magic drinks, you name they are selling it. Putting autism and weight loss together narrows the niche down and turns it into a smaller niche market with greater potential. If the research pans out (without actually looking, I have a feeling it will), start writing articles about your subject. Write a lot of them.

Put up a blog and a website putting a few of your articles on each. Link the sites to each other.

Submit articles to article directories with links back to your blog and website.

Combine articles into an e-book to sell and pay the $50 to have Clickbank list it or PayDotCom or both.

Put up a page on your website for affiliates where they can get images, emails, etc. to use to promote your book for your.

Put up Social site pages about your book and including your articles about your subject on Squidoo, HubPages, and Weebly, to name a few ( there are tons of them but these get indexed very quickly) and link them back to your site and blog. Write more articles and add them to all of your sites.

Find someone that is doing well in both the weight loss industry and the autism sector and try to JV (joint venture) with them to sell your book. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours sort of thing.

Write a short report that is relative to your subject and use it as a free giveaway to entice people to sign up to your mailing list from your sites.

That is a very condensed version of the steps, but I think it gives you a nutshell idea of what you are facing and what you need to start doing.

Good luck!

Aloha,
June
