I have a domain that is now just over a year old. I had not been doing anything with it until about 3 months ago I put up some articles, did some very basic SEO and it started getting traffic. Not much, but maybe 40-100 per day. It was getting about 6% CTR and making $.50-$4 per click so I was happy with the progress.

Note, this was just a little side site I was working on while my main focus was on other projects.

Now the problem...

About a week ago something happened with one of the word press plug ins whic made it so when someone went to my site it was just a blank white page. No error, no nothing. I did not discover the issue for about 3-4 days!

I got the issue fixed and everything is back to normal but now I get ZERO traffic! I'm sure Google noticed they were putting a no content white page up on page one for a few (low comp) keywords and bumped me off. Fine, good job google, but is there a way I can quickly get back to where I was or do I just start from scratch, build new links, put new articles up, ect ect ect

Thanks for any insight.

submit the site to google for reconsideration to be included back in the index. Explain what happened and I am sure they'll understand.

Most likely google will automatically include you in their results again soon assuming there are links pointing to the site as well.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

I agree this has happened to most of us here. Both recommendations above are good. Number 2 is probably my preferred choice. But I would just ping your Site after a new article and you will get indexed again.

You should check whether you are actually deindexed rather than pushed down the serps. If you google you domain name and get no results then it may not be worth attempting to rescue it.

  • Search google for "site:yourdomain.com" like this.

If your site is indexed, you will see pages listed, if there are no results, then you need to ask them why.

It's rare for them to penalize through de-listing, all the reports of penalties I've seen push sites a number of places down the results (i.e. 30 places back, 900 places back).

I had a similar issue happen to one of my websites today. While I didn't have any issues with a plugin or anything of that nature, I noticed this particular site wasn't ranked on the 1st page.

No big deal, I thought - probably going through the ol' Google Dance and will pop back up soon enough, right? Then, I went and did the site:url and cache:url.

The result? Nothing - it was de-indexed completely.

While it's not a site that I've particularly paid a whole lot of attention to recently, it's completely boggled my mind why it would be de-indexed.

Trust me - I know the rules and guidelines through and through and ALWAYS aim to build quality sites that target user interests, all with 100% unique and well-written content. That's why my bounce rates are low and the time on my sites average a few minutes.

This site wasn't a huge income earner (around $30 a month), but it's still $30 a month of passive income that I'm losing out on. I'll probably just let this one slide, but I may hit up Google to see why they would de-index it. My only guess was that a recent speed test showed the site a 77 out of 100, so the speed wasn't best overall, but would that cause a complete de-index from the SERPS? No idea.

Other ideas could be that it only had around 5 pages of content (even though this was content that was unique and geared specifically for readers looking up this particular keyword). Either way, it just goes to show you that you could be cruising one day and hit a wall the next. Diversify, diversify, diversify!
