The True Cost of FREE Stuff

I just came across this post about all the problems found with FREE Wordpress Themes.

I'm an advocate of free whenever you can get it safely - but I never knew some of these issues.

Why You Should Never Search For Free WordPress Themes in Google or Anywhere Else

Base64 - where are you?

Anyone experienced any of these issues?

Free is good but if you are serious about your website is always good to go with a solid product.

Be careful about the types of themes and plugins you put on your wordpress blogs!

Some of these plugins can erase everything in your membership or even mail someone else the username and password. The best thing you can do is to do your research on plugins and themes.

Find out what people have said about them first before trying them out.
Consider getting something from someone who has been around long and can demonstrate the theme or plugin.

      Hope this helps.

Yes, you've got to be very careful with the stuff you put on your web site...

Use trusted sources, the official template archive of wordpress, premium template designers that give away some of their templates for free.

        Look for comments by others...

Do your due diligence - especially when your whole business is on the line.

I've long felt the the ability to include php in a theme, whilst functional, is nuts (themes should be about display, plugins are about functionality). People treat themes far less seriously that plugins even though they can do exactly the same damage.

The dev agency side of our company deals primarily with payment systems and it's amazing how much unaudited third party code people allow around their payment flow, all of which could happily be interfering with the transactions.

I've recently spoken to people who are dealing with issues due to plugins. So not only should you be careful with themes, but plugins as well. People should always make sure to install security plugins to check for security holes. Also, make sure to make backups of their websites.

Good idea about the security plugins...
