Default Fake Blog Comment That You Might Have Seen

Hi Warriors,

If you have a blog and someone has been posting
this... it's a bot post. Please watch out for it.

Quote:
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
If you do a Google search for those exact words...
you'll find that a lot of blogs have fallen for this
trick.

Watch out for your blog!

To the top,
Asher

bot is a term for a computer program or script that does normal human tasks.

I would say that these type of comments may work for a while but like anything if it becomes commonplace than everyone will just start deleting them.

Thanks for alerting us to a possible trend.

What's funny is all that spam has probably destroyed any chance of his website ranking. All those backlinks cant be good.

Actually, I pretty much delete any comments that are that general on my site. I mean if the comment could be posted on a gardening blog as well as marketing blog (like your example), then it's probably a bot. When in doubt, check their links.

For example, I get crap like:

"Great post! I hope you don't mind, but I've added you to my blogroll!"

And, "Great post! I've subscribed to your RSS."

And "I never comments on blogs, but I just had to comment on yours because I agree with everything you say."

cheers,
Becky

Yep I have gotten that exact same comment two times. I deleted one but I think I accepted the first one. Now I can't remember where it was or I would go delete that one too.

Hi Becky,

Good points I didn't think about all the other
examples but you gave some very helpful
information to help filter out the real comments
to the fake ones.

Trent Brownrigg:
The exact same thing happened to me. That's
why I posted this here. I was wondering... how
come two different people posted the two
exact same thing? That raised a red flag.

So I Google'd it and found that it was a bot
post.

I've learnt a lesson here... when there are
comments that seem to be "botty", I'll do a
quick Google search. It may be a little bit
troublesome but since I use CommentLuv to
give link juice, I don't see why I should be
giving any link love to these bots!

Asher

So, reading through all of the above comments I understand that it is better to not accept or delete any comments that resemble a 'bot' comment?

Sorry for the question only that I have just got my first blog up and running and am trying to get up to speed with everything.

Thanks,
David

Not really... what I usually do is to do a quick
Google search by copy-and-pasting the whole
seemingly innocent comment.

If that churns up a lot of same results, it's a
bot post.

However... if you're starting out, you'll want
to at least have the Akismet plugin installed
on your blog. That'll help you cut out the
spam lots!

I know it has on mine~

Your post has given me a crazy brilliant idea.

It's so simple, has no-one thought of this?

Create a wordpress plugin. The plugin takes any comment that is posted to your page and runs it through a search engine. If there are more than a handful of results containing that exact comment, boom - it's dupe content - into the spam box it goes - or it could be flagged as dupe content and held for moderation, just in case it is a quotation.

The plugin could operate also at any time to "clean house" i.e. it could run through old comments, once they have had a chance to rank.

Maybe Akismet already does this, I don't know. I'm just the ideas man. Hey if this hasn't been done and you build this, send me a few bucks or something

Good idea... why not you take that idea, hire someone
to create the script for you in elance or something and
then share it with the people involved here to get
goodwill and testimonials Then you sell that script.

You'll make more money that way then me sending you
a few bucks.

You would get far too many false positives with such as system.

The fake post itself sounds really fake. O.o

"I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading."

Human beings have opinions! Bots don't.

Next thing you know, some programmers come up with emotional bots with various opinions on just about anything you can think off..

Say..

"The war in Iraq is bad. It should end. People are dying. I hate people dying. I am crying. Do you like people dying? I think you don't like people dying. Neither do I. Are you crying? Are we fated? I think I like you. You like me too. We both hate people dying."

Ok I'm just crapping here. But hey who knows right?

Steve.

I get ones that only say good luck and their name is some number with a few letters in it. Not a real message I just delete it soon as I'm alerted.
