Ha, ha. I bet you feel better now

I also unsubscribe people for various reasons. There is no point imho sending out newsletters that don't get read or, worse, received.

Nor is there a point in paying increased fees for having them on your list.

I'll take this thread as a compliment Mike.

    Very well thought out.

I have a particularly long standing membership website which people pay good money to belong to, and I have exactly the same issues as you have just described with their email addresses.

There are warnings in various documentations on the website, to check their emails, keep their emails current, make sure their mailboxes are not over the limit. Plus, they receive the same reminders in their Welcome Email and periodically in newsletters, etc. Every so often I publish a reminder in the blog associated with the website.

Yet, we continue to receive complaints from members, unhappy because they don't receive their emails.

I would say, without a doubt, this is MUCH the most frustrating part of running a membership website...

    I too do the same.

It helps you spy on what your competitors are doing and great way of getting ideas.

Good advice; but to be fair, many subscribers wouldn't have intended to sign up to a list using their PayPal email address, but find themselves automatically added on purchase. I, for one, prefer to reserve my PayPal address for payment notifications and I'd rather receive sales and marketing info at a separate address.

As a general point, if you're using sales software (such as DLG or WSOPro) that automatically captures the PayPal address, be sure to provide a means for your purchasers to amend their email details - surprisingly, some marketers don't do this; in which case the only option is to unsubscribe.

      Hi Mike,

      What Frank said -

many subscribers wouldn't have intended to sign up to a list using their PayPal email address, but find themselves automatically added on purchase
...plus I've had to kill about three primary paypal email addresses because a certain well known autoresponder got hacked and I could find no solution to the overwhelming amount of spam I was receiving, this coupled with a few dodgy WSO sellers who presumeably sold my email.

I use email addresses attached to my own domains, so it's a bit of a nightmare because I eventually let the domain expire and then if I need to resubscribe to certain services or get licence code reminders, the reminders go to a dead end....

      ******* spammers!

        Mike,

One of those emails was probably mine. My ISP decided this spring they no longer wanted to offer email service to their customers so they dropped it.

I was trying to remember all the lists I was on so I could contact/resign up with them under another email addy. At least the ones I wanted to keep. I totally forgot your list (I'm a customer three times over). D'OH!

The good news is I finally found a way to get off Tellman's list...

    I like this one best:

"6. For all you 4-hour work week people out there - you don't need to use a vacation responder to tell me that you only answer your email twice a day...I don't care when or how you answer your email and neither does anyone else."

I hate getting those back every time I send an email to anyone - list or not. Very annoying.
