I need help with pdf clickable links

Before you convert your word to pdf, you will hyperlink the keywords in your report to the site you want visitors to go then you will now convert it to pdf, the links will be clickable in the pdf format. Hope this help? if you are not clear just pm me.

Use Open Office. I eventually had to make do with it when other options didn't do what I wanted with my PDF file. And it worked.

Use Adobe Acrobat X or Pro.
There is one sftware called Nitro pdf with 14 day trial.

Laurence,

Here's how to do it in MS-Word 2007:

1. Highlight the text first
2. Right click
3. Choose "Hyperlink" from the drop-down menu
4. In the "Address: " field, type down the destination URL
5. Click "OK"
6. When you're finished with the document, click the Menu > Save as > PDF
to convert it to a readable PDF ebook document.
7. DONE!

Try using Libre Office which is the free project created by the former developers of Open office who left when that was taken over and left to die, this is what I use to create my PDF's

You can create your document in there, although if bringing in MS office documents there can be formatting issues but these are easily resolved.

Creating the PDF is simply a matter of clicking a few buttons

Menu
File>Export as PDF>Security tab>Set Passwords>set permission password only>adjust default settings if required.

The default settings in the other tabs are fine for most purposes.

@Joe,. I have pm'd you.
@Ray, I actually still use MS 2003 but I do that anyway and it did NOT work for me although the links appear to be links in the pdf but they just don't work.
@Bill & Manuel, I don't use Open Office but I do have it installed so I tried but the links did not work in that either.

Any other ideas?

Laurence,

I'm curious if you're using Adobe Reader to open the PDF
document and test the links' clickability...

Because in the past I have used "3rd party", "alternative",
"lite version" of Adobe Reader (like Foxit Reader, etc.) and
I encountered the same thing.

Since then I always use the "real" Adobe Reader and never
again having --any-- trouble with PDF's.

I am using Adobe Reader but I am definitely having the trouble.
I use Primopdf to convert it. I don't know if that affects it.
I tried with open office using the 'export to pdf' option and that actually worked but it didn't copy across the cover or the security I want for the pdf so I am still not sure what to do.

I also use Open Office. Exporting your Open Office documents to .pdf files is a breeze. When I use Open Office, I will save my documents as MS Word .doc files. I haven't experienced any problems exporting them to .pdf files. Just make sure your links work properly before you export them to .pdf files. Go with Open Office. It's totally free.

Microsoft Word 2010 allows me to generate PDFs with hyperlinks successfully. Is an upgrade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 something you would be able to do?

Try this site www .pdftoword. c0m to convert your pdf to word, then fix the anchoring on MS office, then save it, get back on www .pdftoword. c0m to turn it back to PDF format.

I wonder if you've set your reader not to open hyperlinks? That is, you've clicked some button telling your computer not to trust links in PDFs.

I have just found a site called freepdfconvert.com that works for me and the links work too. yippeeeeeeeeeeee. NOw I want to find out how to protect it from being copied.
I could do that with primopdf.

@Nick, I tried with Open office and the links don't work.

@Josh, money is tight so I am trying to find free ways to do things. I know 2003 is old but it works for 99% of the things I need done.

so.. now I can copy but I need to know how to protect it. If anyone of you kind people has a good idea, please let me know. I have never really fiddled with settings in acrobat before so I am not game to try things.

OK I have discovered something.
I can convert a word doc to a pdf BUT if I protect it from being copied, it stops the links from being clickable.
So Now I want to know if there is a way to protect a doc AND still be able to click the links.

I hope I am not sounding like the stupidest person to ever crawl out from under a rock with all this stuff but it is the first time I have tried to create a product and actually prepare it for a WSO. I want to have it right before I do so.

the 1st reply is good enough and should do the trick.

by protecting your document it doesnt destroy your links clickability. [if there is such a word]

do the hyper link 1st. then protect put ur password. then convert it.

i just did one last night. lol

My day couldn't possibly get any more baffling.
My word doc will open normal URLS in word and in pdf BUT the word doc won't open pdf URLS BUT once it converts to pdf format it will. so work that one out.
I think maybe I need to change to Open office and ditch MS 2003.
Shame I don't drink coz it would be a good day to start.

u r funny.

i felt kinda frustrated yesterday night too.
i was cursing and swearing quietly so i dont wake anyone up.

but i know how frustrating it is when something dont work.

i had problems wwith spell checker too.
i dont know what the problem is with MS word.
why by default it doesnt check.
i remember it used to.

now each time i have to uncheck that bloody box.
then when i move on to the NEXT PARAGRAPH i hav to uncheck that bloody box that says " do not check spelling and grammer" Again.

how stupid can MS word be.

I use normally Free PDF Convert for this (it has a limit of one conversion every 15 minutes though). I have Office 2010 and I noticed that the links normally wouldn't clickable after saving or printing as PDF. Another thing you could do is upload it to Google Drive and download it as PDF file.
