Tracking PPC Affiliate Sales: Is it Even Possible?

I want my PPC ads to send users
directly to affiliate product pages.

That said, is there any way to
track which ads and which keywords
actually generated sales?

I know it is possible to track this if
you are sending prospects to your
own
product, but is it possible
to still track conversions at the
keyword level if your PPC ads send
prospects to an affiliate offer?

(Note: I would not be able to place
any sort of tracking code on the landing
page, since I do not own the product).

Most affiliate programs allow you to create dynamic "sub ids" that are designed for use in exactly these contexts.

    Then you can have your PPC campaigns add the keyword as the subid portion of the redirect URL. For Google AdWords used with ClickBank, it's like this: http://YourID.VendorID.hop.clickbank.net/?tid={KeyWord}

The keyword used in the search that pulled your AdWords ad up is then passed to ClickBank and reported back to you on both clicks and sales.

Here's a good explanation of sub ids.

Yes, you will have to use a custom setting, this also depends on the company. Talk to your advertising company and affiliate company to furnish with this information. They are in a better position to simplify this for you.
