Deciding what to promote?

Does anyone have any techniques they use to discover new, high quality offers to promote to their list? I don't want to be one of these marketers that promotes every new product that crosses their path, but I'm having trouble finding fresh quality products and offers to promote.

I have one question I ask myself when deciding what products to promote.

"Would I enthusiastically advise my best friend or mom to buy this?"

In order to get a "yes" it means I've used it, I love it, I know and trust the people behind it, and I fully expect those that buy it will succeed if they do what's in the course.

That narrows down the field quite a bit, but you'll benefit in the long run from having customers that love you and JUMP when you find ideas that are worthy of their attention.

The product has to appeal to the people you're selling it to.
    e.g:

Selling a product on how to make 5 dollars a day, to expert marketers who make 1000 dollars a day, is appealing.

Sell them something they will want and need to use.

& don't be one of those marketers who spam new offers or products everyday.
Release one maybe once a week or two weeks or month or so on to make it more exclusive.

You can ask your list what they want. You can use for example www.surveymonkey.com to create a survey (free) and send it to your list.

People love to be asked for their opinion! Try it out - it works!

Promote on something that you can relate to. Say for example promoting a product which you are using and are happy about the effects on it. In that case, you will be hitting two birds in one stone. Because you will basically get a lifetime supply from the product because of your highly effective promotion. It will surely be effective because you tried using it and is happy about the effects.

The product should be useful! If you do not want to buy it yourself then it will other will also not buy it.

Firstly, do your due diligence. Trawl around on forums and find some independent reviews of the product and/or seller to make sure it has a good reputation.

If promoting physical products (eg via Amazon), check out Coming Soon items that are due to be released. Select reputable brands and start setting up your site and creating content leading up to the release. It makes it easy to pre-sell to your list.

I found a couple of Clickbank products for my list by examining the average sale of recurring billing products, and their gravity. That means it's selling a lot, and people continue to pay the monthly charge.

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR NICHE AND also on CURRENT TRENDS...Some niches are not too sustainable.

Thanks everybody, great replies. My problem is that I don't buy a lot of stuff so I don't have a lot of things I can personally vouch for.

Get involved in something that you truly like and enjoy dealing with...that way until you make money with it, it won't be boring promoting and marketing the product. I've found several products that I promote that work with this approach.

    You have to either:

    a) use it yourself and love it
    b) have reviewed it yourself and feel it would be useful

In b), there might be tools that are useful to beginners that I wouldn't do myself as I may use more complex tools.

Yes, this means you actually have to buy the product. But most products are offered with a 30 day guarantee, so if it is not a useful product, just ask for a refund.

I do, actually. I have a little ten-point checklist and it's been very good to me. (I wrote it for ClickBank products, but some of the principles behind the ten points/questions would apply to "other stuff", too).

If a product comes my way I always like to Google it & make sure it hasn't got negative reviews. If the product is junk or if it's a software that's real buggy then you'll see complaints really easy. I never promote products with that kind of baggage - not high quality.

Also, if you've got a decent-sized list, consider asking the creator for a review copy. Talk to them, tell them what you've got to offer & what your conversion rates etc are. They want to make money & if you've got a good responsive list to work with, you'll likely get a good response.

And it's also wise to limit how often you're hitting your list with high priced special offers, unless you've conditioned them from the start to expect such from you. Check out how much the creator is paying in commissions & stick to a threshold of what you'll accept.

I also like to look at their sales site & support material. The more support they offer to their affiliates, the more I know that they're legit & that they've done their research too.
