Creating an info-product on a seasonal niche?

Hi Warriors,

I am planning to create my first info-product and have looked at a seasonal niche where a lot of people are looking for a certain solution. My potential competitors have a very well established presence on the web and have a few articles on the topic but no comprehensive solution to people's problem (since they are general sites/portals), and this is where I think I can step-in.

The challenges I am facing are:

-The festival/day is not too far away, and I'll only have about 20-30 days to create the product, put it in the marketplace and generate traffic. I have money to invest on outsourcing, so can speed up my work. But still, is a month too less time to do all this? Once that day is over, there'll be no further sales of that product.

-I am thinking of pricing it low, which would probably not interest too many affiliates. Will I lose a lot of potential sales in the absence of affiliates?

-The idea is to create a how-to ebook and an upsell of videos of the same instructions to make things even easier for customers. Thoughts?

Thanks!

I would say you are pushing it a bit tight - if it really is a one-day event then the you are going to want to use the month leading up to it to make sales as well - as well as building publicity (think Christmas - many businesses are starting to advertise it now).

Seems like you have some good ideas though. Can you apply them to creating a product about other seasonal events? (Best to squeeze as much money out of your ideas as you can - not just make them a once-a-year thing.)

Sounds like a Halloween site. Try to expand your site for other festival days also around the holiday season. Also expect most of your sales will be up to a month before the holiday. I know many people make last minute buying decisions but they generally do that in brick and mortar stores.

        Chuck, yep-Halloween it is.

The idea of a site revolving around festivals is nice. What I am thinking right now is a product I can put up on Clickbank and market it aggressively in whatever short time I have.

You haven't got long but this should not stop you.

    Get started...

Why will it take you 30 days to create the product?

I am not joking when I say that I have designed a quality product in 48 hours with a lot of coffee and no sleep!

    Go for it...

Speculative: If it's season, and you have enough lead time, you probably won't miss the affiliates' boost because Google will make up for it as more people start searching for those keywords.

The downside, of course, is that they've been around for decades in the B&M world, I would be very surprised if they are more numerous online with the easily affordable cost of startup.

I have an outdoor niche and what keeps it going 12 months out of the year (as opposed to virtually zero income for the rest of the year with a B&M before the Internet), is that the seasons are opposite for northern and southern hemispheres.

If you take 30 days to design the product then you will be left with very less time for promoting it. Why don't you create some placeholder and start marketing it now. Also you can use PPC etc to attract users in no time. Good Luck.

Yeah, I agree - set up a squeeze and get people on the 'advanced notification list' - you don't even have to have STARTED the product. Think of the big launches - some of them start months in advance. Don't rush the product - but if you market smart you can get a lot of your buyers before your product is even done. You can do it!

20-30 days is too much. You can done it within 1 week unless you do some sort of high price tag product. Since it's seasonal, PPC/PPV works great for getting fast traffic

Awesome!! Thanks Chris, just the push I needed. By 30 days, I meant from creating the product to marketing it, but I think I may have been overestimating the time it takes to create a decent product.

Didn't think of PPC either; something I should seriously look at. Thanks Franz!

Another tip is to work for the site seo rankings when no one is working on the theme. work for your Halloween site rankings even when haloween is over, be #1 in google and get ready for Halloween sale. If not now next year but make sure you build the quality and SERP

    All the best.
