Converting e-mail list into subscribers!

Hello there,

I own several e-commerce which never used a newsletter system!
YES, I didn't build ANY list and now I realized that I'm loosing money.

So I have a long list of e-mail addresses but I'd like to subscribe them on a list... how to?
I mean I don't have any permission so I was thinking to offer an incentive or whatever but... I don't have the permission to send that offer too!!! Am I right?

    Any unsolicited email is classed as SPAM so unfortunately you shouldn't send them anything.

    What about snail mail. Do you have their postal address. If you do why not send them a post card with a short 'Dear Customer' letter informing them of your newsletter and asking them to subscribe in exchange for something free.

    If you do go down this route I have a little tip for you. Put the post card in an envelope. Response rates tend to go up when you do this. I realise it's more expense but it's worth the extra effort.

    this should not be taken as legal advice, but if this list you have is of past customers, then you have an existing business relationship with them and you can in fact email them letting them know about updates or offering them a free gift to get onto your autoresponder list.

    you are in a bit of a grey area, but it is very unlikely you will have any issues if you dont abuse the right to mail them based on your existing business relationship.
