I tested out Bill McRea's Newbie Giveaway. So far the results have been positive. I didn't really put that much work into it. I took a PLR product, modified it a little, made a custom eCover for it, uploaded it... and after about 3 to 4 days I have gotten 20+ optins. For doing little to no work at all.

Keep in mind, my PLR product was nowhere near the top of the list in the giveaway. The key to succeeding with those giveaways is to make certain you promote it like a madman from the get go. This way your product will be on the first page or two, increasing your optins.

If it is on page 12 or so... you will likely get lower optins than you had if you were on page 2 or 3. I haven't tested the members of that list out with any offers yet... but plan on doing just that here in the next week or so.

    Hope that helps.

In January 2008, every giveaway used to give me 4,000 subscribers but the number reduced to only 50 in December 2008.

Sales from One time offer has also reduced considerably.

Anyway, you will get nice ebooks for education purpose.

I think that is just an indicator of the economy. That explains the OTO reduction. As for the optin decrease... probably something to do with everybody and their brother having a giveaway event these days.

    BizBooks,

I've joined many giveaway events and my answer is YES.

They're very good for list building. My first *great* list
building experience was when I signed up for a giveaway
and contributed a couple free gifts.

(It was worth 5-10 opt-ins a day for the length of the
giveaway, which was about a month. And that was
    my FIRST experience with giveaways.)

There are a few guys that provide on-going lists of
giveaways and it's a great resource. Let me give
you a few (I'm not affiliated with any of them)...

    1. Alex Perez-Prat --> The IM Joint Venture Social Network

    2. Ryan Even --> JV Giveaway Blog | Listing JV Giveaways

    3. Mieke Janssens' --> http://www.NewJVGiveaways.com

    Good luck!

    BizBooks...

Giveaways worked extremely well for me too...

    Especially on Twitter!

I joined Twitter in late November 2008. I had an idea and created a "Holiday Campaign" for the Xmas season...

The campaign was a free giveaway everyday from Dec 1-26.

    The requirement?

You had to follow me on Twitter to get the links to the gifts being given away once a day...

At the time I only had 2 followers.

When I launched that campaign, I increased it to over 100+ followers!!

Now awesome but a great increase from 2, I must say...

People love to get free stuff, especially if it helps them solve a problem...

I'm going to launch another campaign as well...probably for Valentine's Day!

    Hope this helps...

Back in 'the old days', JV Giveaways could bring in 1000s of new subscribers. Because of the immens popularity, contributors need to settle for a lot less, but still these events are the best way to build a list of subscribers.

Personally I don't know any other way to bring in 50, or even 20 subscribers in one day...

People simply love free stuff, ...

They are few because they are so many. Get 100 optins per giveaway event. Participate in 10 events and you have decent starter list of 1000 subscribers. Of course you want to get them off the freebie seeker list as soon as possible.

I am going to start using a lot of giveaway events... easy to get signups from those things especially with rebranded PLR.

I love giveaways. Once I promoted an ebook on how to do well with Giveaways within these events and it did well. In fact, I try developing a giveaway products few times a year just for these events.

Always upgrade using OTO though, it'll cost you anywhere from $17-$47 and you should get min 20-30 to over 100 new sign ups per giveaway.

Of course this largely has to do with what it is you're promoting.

Here is what I suggest if you don't have any special report to offer.

Go to elance.com and hire a designer and have him make graphic buttons for you to give away. Have him also make an ecover.

Upload it and give away this product.

Now you have a nice gift to give. It's not a report, but set of graphics that others can easily perceive as quality (although in my case, I did provide PDF report in addition to the graphics).

If anyone wants that report I mentioned here with graphics, just PM me, you can see an example of how it was done.

Decent graphics or templates should do well in any giveaway event. Software is another one that does well.
