Quick question about Anchor Text when link building...

Hey Ladies and Gents,

I was doing some link building today, and started thinking about anchor text, and I've got a quick question...

If I've been building links with anchor text: "injury attorney dallas tx", obviously it's going to count towards that specific keyword in the search engines...

BUT will it also count towards "attorney dallas tx" and "injury attorney dallas"?

See what I'm getting at? Will the link count only towards the complete 4 word phrase that I used, or will it count for those additional keyword phrases too, even though it's not an exact keyword match (since there are additional words).

I'm curious to hear what you guys think about this; especially if you've actually tested this out and know for sure (not interested in just a guess. lol)

Thanks in advance!

It will help your rankings for all combinations, but the exact match phrase is what will benefit most..

Sometimes it will pick up for different combo's, but like said above, it will benefit the main targeted keyword most.

google doesn't know you're trying to rank for injury attorney dallas tx so it'll rank for all of the combo's above. If you try to rank for 'how to get into affiliate marketing' and you'll also be considered, against the competition of course against 'affiliate marketing' and how to get, get into, into affiliate. Google only analyses the words of the page and pulls them out.

All combos of the terms will get a boost from your efforts.
I have worked on hundreds of sites and achieved top rankings for many of them.

All the words in the anchor text will rank. The exact term will rank best though.

Yes as others have said it will HELP with all of the above. If you want to rank even higher what you can do is go into Google and type in "Injury Attorney" then scroll down to the related searches and you will see other keyword suggestions.

Include these words in your blog post or better still write an individual post for each one and you will rank higher.

JMO but links aren't keyword specific, basically you get a link for the page and all the words on it. But in an ideal situation you want the exact keyword you're targeting so that it helps Google to determine what your page is about.

For instance adobe has been #1 for the keyword "click here" but they aren't optimized for that. The sites linking to them often use click here as anchor text. Hope that makes sense (did in my head anyway, but may have lost something in the translation).

Here's another example, I ran a unique string of text from from an article I'm backlinking "easiest stretches lower back pain is called the Cat Stretch" through MarketSamurai, the backlinks shows up even there's no anchor text links for the phrase.

I once targeted a phrase for my site very heavily for a key phrase 'how to start an internet business'.

It ended up giving me traffic for dozens of other combinations within like...

    start an internet business
    starting an internet business
    how to start internet business
    start your own internet business

In short you will get traffic from all related combinations and probably sometimes you will notice that the combined traffic is higher than the actual keyword traffic you're targeting. Google now seems to look at a website based on its overall site theme and all the combined keywords on a site rather than single keywords you're targeting.
