Good microphone to plug directly into a MacBook Pro?

I'm looking for a good lavaliere microphone to plug into a MacBook Pro, to get better sound for my simple on-camera videos.

If you have experience with this type of set up I'd appreciate your input.

I searched for a few and the reviews are conflicting. I'd like to know what people are actually using on the WF with success. The sound quality has to be good enough to make videos — on camera or screenshot — for WSOs.

Thanks.

Jerry

Many of the headset mics, etc made for PCs require a low level input lacking on current Macs, previous models had proprietary mic jacks unique to.

To broaden your horizons you can use a USB powered mic preamp, not quite the direct connect you had in mind, but it allows you more mic choices, there are several different ones at Amazon for under $10, I believe the Mac O.S. can deal with these, not positive though.

Amazon.com: 7.1 Channel USB External Sound Card...Amazon.com: 7.1 Channel USB External Sound Card...

Just for reference, the bluemic.com usb snoball type of mics are step up when a desktop mic is suitable and do direct connect.

(I have heard live webinar interruptions when someone had to restart things on his Mac explaining that the sound seemed to go whaco after a while)

I agree with Marty that the mic built in to the MacBook is better than most external mics. I would only use a lavaliere if the speaker must be at a distance from the built in mic. In that case, the standard interface to use is the Griffin iMic.

This little gadget plugs in to a USB port. It has a jack that will accept the mini plug of a regular (non USB) mic. I use Radio Shack's wired condenser lavaliere ($29) and I can confirm that I get very good recorded sound in GarageBand with it.

      Thanks, Steve.

I would be 3-5 feet away and, in testing, the sound is a bit tinny. I'll check into the iMic.

      Much appreciated.
