Surf for traffic exchange - is it worth it?

While learning about generating traffic, a friend of mine told me to register at traffic exchange websites that offer free traffic. The problem is there are countless traffic exchange websites, and my friend suggested me to register at least to 40 traffic exchange websites. I registered to 10 web at so far.

It does provide free service, but require the free user to surf at least 10 pages to get credits. But it's very boring and I feel like wasting my time waiting for the timer countdown to zero, in order to continue to view next pages. Of course there is option to be paid member and buy credits, but I choose no at this moment.

So my newbie question is: Is it worth it to get traffic from traffic exchange websites? How about being paid members and buy credits? Is it worth it?

Thanks

They can work, since the traffic you get from these sites is very targeted towards the "getting traffic" niche. So if you build a quick loading squeeze page with a great, attention- grabbing headline you can get lots of people on your e-mail list, and after this you can follow up with them, and maybe you can make a few sales (if not, try CPA offers, or other offers that can be completed for free).

I am not too sure about traffic exchange thing. I used to buy traffic with credits and they didn't work at all. My main source of income is Google Adsense and I personally think, only organic traffic is reliable. Until now, i only focus to get organic traffic and so far, 70% of my traffic are organic. Perhaps you can look into SEO and see it can help in generating traffic.

As with any source of traffic you have to know
your audience, you have to put the right type
of offer in front of them and you MUST measure
    your results.

Traffic exchanges provide lots of very useful data.

I often use traffic exchanges to split test landing or
squeeze pages before launching to a wider audience.

"Surfing" puts lots of different pages in front of you
and I have discovered lots of great ideas to add to my
    swipe file.

The best advice I can give you... is be sure to have an
    objective in mind.

It's a case of common sense. You must know what your audience wants, then seek them out. There are different audiences everywhere. And different ways of engaging them including traffic exchanges.

Think about what you are trying to sell and what type of person is likely to buy it. If you don't do this (and from what you have said that is exactly where you are going wrong) you will fail, guaranteed.

Would this be fair...after reading numerous posts on the topic of traffic exchanges and trying many myself... it seems there effectiveness is very minimal... those who do get results generally tend to target people seeking traffic and newbies looking for money... traffic exchanges - - due to surfing requirements -- are time consumptive and most folks don't want to pay for poor results ... over and over again the consensus seems to be article writing, forum postings, video marketing and blogs seem to consistently produce results also seo, and some social marketing help round things out

Would you agree that is about right?

I love this question over the years!

Some surf exchanges offer specials or perks that do make them worthy- being able to mail your "team" is a feature I love.

I do not join scads of traffic sites, and use them together to create a flow for splash pages, and test offers.
I have enjoyed ongoing and ever increasing traffic from the few I do use.

Be selective, know that every traffic source has different results.

Personally: my main traffic sites I do not need to "surf" in. Why? I have lots of people, can mail them weekly, and they earn me enough credits to keep the stat counters turning.

      Its all a process.

I find that traffic from seo is easier than ever to, there are so many "social" things you can do nowadays that do get results in you being ranked, so in my opinion anything you can "enjoy" doing is win win but balance time as all traffic and no creation equals a non plus result in all likelihood.

        So what's the trick?
TEs provide VERY targeted traffic if you are in the IM and associated niches. If your not in those niches don't use them.

You have to know how to use them; many guides are available if you carry out a search.

Try to use them to brand yourself and get you or your company known, so if you use banners have your face, logo or name on them.

Use splash pages for your main advertising. These are very fast loading and to the point pages - not unlike squeeze pages - but more effective for the TE environment.

Just a few of my thoughts,
        Jeff.

In my opinion most of the traffic exchanges are a total waste of time. All members are there to sell something not to buy anything. The only way I have used traffic exchanges in the past was to build my email list.It worked quite well but it was extremely time consuming.I used a traffic exchange called TrafficSwarm.

I think traffic exchanges are a waste of time. You would be better off spending your time link building on high traffic websites.

A lot of people have opinions, but opinions are useless unless tested.

Traffic exchanges do attract the "make money" niche people so if you product is in this niche, it might be worth a try.

Make sure you set up your tracking to track conversions, not traffic and test 5 or 10 of them to see how they work.

Primarily, the way to get more credits on traffic exchanges is to invite others to build your downline, so when you find a good one, blog about it and invite others to it.

When you find ones proven to work, lower your surfing time and just build your downline or buy credits.

Some of the traffic exchanges have been an excellent cost per lead for me and a great positive return on investment. Please note that these are REAL, tracked results, not just my opinion.

I track EVERY traffic source I use and the results are often surprising. Techniques that I thought could never work have been some of my best results and ones I thought were sure winners turned out to be turkeys. This is why your opinion doesn't matter. And neither does mine!

I think it depends on what your site offers because some people get tons of sales and members from the traffic exchange site but your need a site that theses surfers will want to stop surfing and join... for an example another free traffic site or a way to get free traffic because everyone who is surfing is in the market for free traffic

Yes and no.. maybe when you're first starting out just so you can see some kinda results yes... but after a while you're going to want to attract people who are genuinely interested in your website... so it's the old usual method of hard work that'll attract them..

I'm using the traffic exchanges as a starting method for traffic as I build my site up to have good SEO. Currently I don't have any conversions but I can continue tweaking and if I start to see some conversions, I'll know my ad type is getting good enough to convert! I currently have about 5k hits from the traffic exchanges though and no conversions, so regardless I'm sure they don't compare to real organic traffic.

    It's funny to note...

Things in internet marketing come and go...There is new 'hype' and new 'fancy' ways to make money and generate traffic...

Since 1998, traffic exchanges have been here.

Crazy magic I know. What on earth can these programs provide that *gasp* a 47 dollar clickbank product couldn't...

With the social aspect and community feel to traffic exchanges, you will be hard pressed to find anything more solid and effective.

But yeah, good to see the T.E. hate is still alive and well in here lol
