How to properly do commenting?

Hi all,

me again.

I have one very serious question: how do you leave comments properly?

I got little confused by "dofollow" and "nofollow" links, so I'm not sure anymore if I'm doing blog commenting right.

And do you live links or anchor text in comments?

How to make every comment count for backlink?

Thank you a lot,
John

      Hey John,

I personally hate blog commenting as a method of backlinking, but it can be effective if you do it properly.

      With regards to your questions:

      1. Try to only leave comments on articles with a high PR.

      2. Nofollow = Useless for SEO (as far as I'm concerned). Dofollow = What you want.

      3. You can rarely use anchor text hyperlinks in blog comments (they usually don't allow html in comments) so you need to paste a URL with the target keywords in it e.g. www.mywebsite.com/my-keywords.html

      4. To make it count, post a really constructive and well thought out comment that the owner of the blog will find difficult to reject. Post on pages with a high PR and related content.

      Hope that helps!

    1. Most bloggers find spam comments in their comment approval section every now and then so you need to comment on article by actually reading those articles and then giving your suggestions/comments/reviews on it. This will give your comment authencity and the user will approve them.

    2. Try to comment on the blogs closely related to your niche. If you're into swimming pool supplies and leaving comment for backlink of such website, I'd suggest you go to some water related website rather stock market..I think you get the picture here.

    3. Dofollow links are counted as your backlinks by search engines while nofollow are not considered as a vote of backlink for your site. However it's not wise to get all dofollow links for your website. It makes links creation bit unnatural. So if you're getting some nofollow links, ITS OK..if not increase in count, you might get traffic from those links if someone click on them

    4. If you're able to place text for your link, go for it. But don't bother if you can't because linking your website for ONLY text anchored links also make the link pattern bit suspecious and unnatural. So try to get as much links as possible no matter text is allowed or not. This will make your link pattern natural to SE and they will give your website better chance to rank.

    5. Finally, comments will be counted if they are dofollow. But SE will consider those links count valid if the links are from close related websites. (read 2 point again). Getting links from un-related websites will actually makes your SEO and link building effort spam and Google might penalize your website for this. So it's better to get less links from related sites than more links from all sort of junk sites and forums that are not remotely related to your niche.

    Hope it helps..Harry.

If you're going the manual route I'd avoid nofollow blogs for the most part. They're just not worth your time, IMO.

    Some basic tips:

1 - I never recommend posting your URL in your comment. You may as well be waiving a big red flag at the spam filters. Only use the designated URL / Website box.

2 - Don't spam your anchor text. Though many blog owners don't mind if it's PART of the name. Ex:

    "Bug Spray Reviews" = bad
"John From Bug Spray Reviews" = OK, in a lot of cases.

3 - ALWAYS ensure that your comments are actually beneficial to the posts. One, it helps to get your comment approve. Two, it's actually fun to get involved in the conversation from time to time. The added benefit here is that the blog owner will recognize you as a quality poster and approve other comments that you make.

Best advice on blog commenting I can give you is CONTRIBUTE to the blogs you are posting on and make each comment worthwhile and make sure it adds value to that persons site

Make sure you actually post about the content of the blog post and that the text of your comment is conversational not just promotional. These matter more than anything else. You want the blog author to feel like you are talking to them not just using their space as your own jumping off point.

For example, saying "you know I run a site that has similar problems (I put the link in the URL box if you want to check it out) and in my experience this is what has worked best for me: [insert actual text on how you handled the issue in question]," is fine.

Saying "Over at my site [URL HERE] where I sell [KEYWORDS HERE] for [PRICES HERE] (make sure you check out my site to see what kind of deals you and your readers can get!) and we deal with similar issues all the time. In my experience, [SOLUTION] works best!" has a 50/50 chance of being approved or not being approved.

Saying "I run [URL HERE] and we have GREAT DEALS on things that your readers will enjoy! I really like your site! Good luck!" will most likely get you reported for spam.

Remember blog commenting is also about building relationships in addition to traffic. It's a symbiotic thing, not a parasitic thing.

The two biggest points in the posts so far are: not to exclusively use dofollow links because Google will eventually view that as unnatural, and to contribute something of value.

If you want an idea of what is acceptable as a blog comment and whether you can use anchor text take a look at the comments that have already been approved there.

I actually wrote a whole guide about blog commenting, I wrote it for members of my forum to have no idea that SEO or in fact Internet marketing at all.

It's very easy and effective and has seen a lot of results.

It's called working man's web domination, the sales page is meant to have professional copy written but has not yet been delivered.

Whenever you comment on a blog - you must be careful about few things like, do not use keywords - if you use keywords, 90% of the blog owners will not read it and will delete them. Second point - reply relevant to the article and do not spam the blog. Third point - do follow is always good but no follow will still generate traffic and try not to ignore it.

Go to google alerts site and type in your niche keyword, set it to send you blogs related to your topic once a day, makes it easy to comment only on related blogs.

When building links from comments, most people build too many with their keywords and not the name of the business or site. For the name part, use something like "Bob from Fantasy Baseball Dugout" or "Mobile Marketing Guru". That doesn't seem too spammy and actually offers some good information to the reader.

    John,
You will want to put your website as your name. For example, Google.com will be who you post as. Then your email address and then type in your website. Make sure your comments contribute to the article and are legit.
Almost all blogs that allow comments are nofollow but Google wants to see a combo of both dofollow and nofollow backlinks. You will also get traffic from commenting on blogs.
    Hope this helps.

Don't do blog commenting for backlink. The blog owner can easily change your website URL. "Nofollow" is the type of link that will not be followed by spider and "Dofollow" is the one that's followed by spider, as simple as that.
