Curious About Solo Ads....

Hey Guys,

I am a prominent solo ad seller in the IM niche being on Reed Florens "SoloAdDirectory" and Corey and Winters Chronic Commissions product. However, I would like to know if any bigger marketers have any suggestions or concerns about selling solo ads.

One thing I can see is a drop in opens/clicks but it could be so many different variables so I can't really pinpoint this on selling solo ads. I mean....whether I am sending out MY ad or somebody elses ad, I'm going to be sending them right?

Typically, the offer I send for a solo would require signing up but it is valuable stuff for free for my subscriber, which is something I like to offer to them. I do ad swaps and it works the same way.

SO....your thoughts, suggestions, concerns, etc. would be greatly appreciated from marketers that actually HAVE a list and are actively promoting and building more of a list.

Thanks in advance and we'll see ya later..

Sincerely,

Craig Raphael

i am not in the how to IM niche, but have been doing IM for about 15 years.

some years back (6-8 or so) when JV's were really taking off in the IM world, there was some discussion of this. especially when the giveaway sites got big.

i think the predominant theory is that you are essentially dilluting your list every time you send a solo ad that directs people to a squeeze page.

lets say that a person is getting 15 emails a day now, and yours is one of them. then you run solo ads for squeeze page for a few months. you are directly responsible for putting some of your most active subscribers on maybe 5+ or more other peoples lists who are now also promoting them stuff.

now 2 months later that guy who was getting 15 emails a day (including yours) is now getting 30+ or more emails a day including yours. its not hard to see why you open rates and conversion go down.

not long after the big marketers at the time went through this phase, there was a big shift to mid / high end products.

this let the marketers who have the list not share it with as many people and still make the same amount of money because they were pushing fewer higher ticket items instead of lots of $27 ebooks.

My only concern with solo ads is open rates.

I would prefer to get a prominent ad in the primary publication.
